Pop
The 1960s were a time of creativity and innovation and many new styles of popular music developed in the aftermath of rock and roll.
Songs are generally short to medium-lengths, written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as the common use of repeated choruses and melodic tunes. The music included riffs, hooks and licks.
Many British pop groups in the 1960s were heavily influenced by American blues and R&B. These included The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.
Todays pop musicians include Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, James Arthur, Maroon 5 etc.
