Sonata Form

Started in the classical period (1750-1810).  There are two different meanings for Sonata and Sonata Form.

  1. Sonata – many of these were written for solo instruments, eg flute, cello, piano etc.  They were written in Sonata Form.  This one is from the Romantic era as they continued to be written.
  1. Sonata Form itself consists of three parts.

Exposition – this is the introduction

Development – the music is now developed

Recapitulation – the music is now recapped
