Strings

The string family in the orchestra consists of the violin, viola, cello and double bass.  Other string instruments include the guitar, sitar, banjo, ukulele, lute………  There are many others.  They are plucked or bowed.

Some terms for orchestral instruments are

pizzicato = plucked

arco = bowed

col legno = played with the other side of the bow
