Romantic

This is an era of music from 1810-1900.   The orchestra grew in size because brass instruments were invented and they could play all of the notes.  Composers liked this and they wrote more for them,  the rest of the orchestra had to keep up with the volume produced so the other sections became larger.  Certain instruments point to the romantic era, the harp, the snare drum, cymbal clash or certain types of playing.  Virtuosic playing by a soloist or parts of the orchestra.  Dynamics had extremes of louds and softs and tempos had lots of speeding up and slowing down.  The harmonies were more chromatic to convey the sense of drama. Composers from this era include Beethoven and Debussy.
