Increase to Dependant’s Allowance – Council Tax Reduction (CTR) – All Council Tax Bands

From 1 April 2017, the Scottish Government have increased the allowance for each child in a household.  This means that existing CTR customers may see an increase in their award (if they have children) or it may also mean that some customers (with children) may now be entitled to CTR when perhaps previously they were not.  Our online calculator could help customers to find out if they would now qualify.

Council Tax Reduction (CTR) – Council Tax Bands E-H

From 1 April 2017, the CTR scheme has been expanded to potentially provide further assistance to those in bands E to H.  If you are in a band E to H property and;

  • You have less than £16,000 in savings/capital and;
  • You  have less than £321 per week (net) income (if you are a single person with no dependants) or;
  • You have less than £479 per week (net) household income (for couples or single person with dependants),

You may qualify for assistance towards your increase in Council Tax for your band E to H property.

If you already receive Council Tax Reduction, you do not need to reapply.

Council Tax Reduction (CTR) – Applying Online/Online Calculator

Customers can apply for CTR by visiting www.pkc.gov.uk/ctrhbapply .  We also have an online calculator on this web page – this has been programmed with April 2017 rates and is an ideal way for our customers to gain an estimate of entitlement prior to proceeding with an application.

Discretionary Housing Payments

Discretionary Housing Payments becomes a Scottish Government scheme from 2017/18. The Perth & Kinross DHP budget allocation for 2017/18 is £534,322.

The Scottish Government position regarding the mitigation of SSSC via DHP will continue. In light of the fact that DHP will be a Scottish Government scheme, those currently in receipt of DHP in respect of SSSC will not be required to submit a review application for 2017/18, instead their entitlement to DHP in respect of SSSC will be extended until 31st March 2018 or until their under-occupation situation ends.

Only those tenants who do not have an existing award of DHP in respect of SSSC will be required to apply. Application forms can be found here.

We are currently working towards an online DHP application system and we will keep you updated on the progress of this.
