Our Castle
The Friendly Dragon asked us to build a castle, so of course we had to oblige!
We built it from cardboard, painted it, made a portcullis from material and put flags on top!
To make our classroom more like Fairyland we have made Rapunzel pictures and learned how to plait.
We have also been sending letters to the Friendly Dragon after making old style paper in tea.
Paired Reading
We had a lovely morning with the P4/5 class. They read us stories they had written about their castle topic. Then they did our reading with us and then read us a story as well!
Thank you P4/5!
❖Minibeast Habitats❖
We were out in the school garden and over in the park looking at different habitats of minibeasts. We were looking at which minibeasts are found in the air, under stones, on bark and in the soil. We found a lot of minibeasts including bees, earwigs, woodlice centipedes, slugs, snails, moths and flies.
Miss Lamb also brought in for us a Bug hotel which her partner had made for us! We will be able to keep checking on this to see what minibeasts use it as a home.
Health Week Day 3
Today was busy, busy!
We made comments for our Friendship Tree – saying kind words about somebody we wouldn’t generally say something nice to.
Next we went over to the hall and Miss Dingwall showed us how to play Indoor Curling. We had a great time and some of us would have played longer.
This was then followed by orienteering in the playground with Mrs Lynne. The children in pairs managed this very well and after initially finding it a little tricky, they had it mastered. Mrs Lynne kindly provided Hot Chocolate to keep us warm, as the snow was beginning to fall a little harder.
In the afternoon, after music practice, we played Whole School Dodgeball. Well done to Ardoch who won, but a big well done has to go to Alexander Bickerton who was standing alone in his team,
which seemed an eternity, avoiding all the balls.
Victorian Toys
In our groups we had another chance at improving our skills playing Victorian games.
Some boys and girls moved the game of marbles onto the carpet, as they were moving so quickly along the floor. We discussed that there would be more friction on the carpet, so the marbles would be easier to control.
Tatty Tales
Today the farmer John Ritchie came to our school and helped us plant our potatoes.
He told us all about growing potatoes and we were able to ask him a lot of questions.
We then went out and planted two of our potatoes in our grow bag. We weighed them first of all and we will compare this weight to our final crop. We have also planted potatoes in different pots, so we will see them at different stages of growth.
John also split the children into 2 teams and they will have their own competition to see whose potatoes grow the tallest.
Thanks to John for coming to our class and helping us plant our potatoes.
Queen Victoria
P2/3 have been researching in pairs all about Queen Victoria using this website Queen Victoria.
They then have been using their notes to write and type an account of her life.
Yule Logs
P2/3 worked very hard to make yule logs to sell at our craft evening.
They worked in pairs and did a fantastic job. See for yourself!
Electric Circuits
We have been learning about electric circuits. We started of with a basic circuit lighting one light with wires and a battery. We then used switches, more than one light, fans and buzzers.
At the end we tried to have our Christmas lights turn on. The pictures don’t do it justice! (You had to be there!)
