Ben Shows His Microscope
Ben (an ex pupil of Braco Primary School) came to our class and showed us his digital microscope.
We used it to check if our hands were clean. OH OH! Some were surprised that they were not as clean as they thought.
We used it to look at our hair, in our ears, nose and mouths!
We also looked at some materials close up like Mrs Baxter’s ring and Ben’s football shirt. Thanks for coming along Ben to demonstrate this.
Making Fruit Kebabs
Today we made Fruit Kebabs as part of our Health subject.
We looked at how fruit is good for us, the journeys the food had travelled to us and whether these journeys are good for the environment.
We then got down to making these with the help of Hazel.
Lots of us thought this was a good way to eat fruit!
Materials
The children worked together in co-operative groups to sort out the materials of toys.
They had to choose which toys were made of fabric, metal, plastic and wood.
They took turns at different tables.
Subtraction
Here are a few subtraction games to help you improve your mental subtraction skills.
Baking Christmas Biscuits
The children learned different skills when making Christmas biscuits.
They learned and followed hygiene rules throughout baking.
They followed the recipe, took turns, measured with scales, beat ingredients together, roll out the mixture and use cutters too.
Finally in the afternoon, they got to taste them too!
Making Electrical Circuits and Lighting up our Lighthouses
P1/2/3 made simple electrical loop circuits with wires, a battery and a light. They also added a buzzer and a switch in some of their circuits too.
After experimenting with these, they used their electrical circuit to light up their lighthouses which they had made previously. They all looked lovely, especially with the main lights off.
The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch
The children were joined today by our visiting Specialists.
This included Mrs McGaffney for Music, Mrs Bennett for Drama and Miss Mailer for Art.
In the morning Miss Mailer built marvellous lighthouses with the children and showed them the easy way to draw seagulls.
Mrs McGaffney used the Ipads with the children. They put sounds to pictures using musical instruments and their voices and then recorded these on the Ipads. These were then demonstrated to the children on the smartboard.
In the afternoon, the children made still pictures and used mime for different scenes of the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch story.
Thank you all our specialists who came today and made the day so enjoyable.
Forest Schools
P1/2/3 had their first day in the forest this year!
We were joined by Mrs Taylor who had arranged the session.
The children looked for signs of autumn and collected different leaves.
They listened to a story about an owl and a hedgehog. They then had to make a little den for their little woodland animal.
P1/2/3 Get Together
P1/2/3 presented a Get Together to show Mums and Dads and the school some of their learning so far.
