Find out about our learning here

A Bird-tastic Week!

On Monday we took part in the #bigschoolsbirdwatch.  We found out what birds visit our garden and what the most common visitors were.  We also saw a red squirrel scurrying up a tree!

We made our own bird books, we used our sketching skills and then added some paint.  We are really proud of them and we are going to add in some information about the birds.

We would like to raise money for 2 charities this year, WWF and the RSPB.  We have contacted the RSPB to see if we can get a box of badges to sell in the school, they have accepted our request and we are looking forward to selling them.

We have been working hard with Miss Edwards to finish our Aquarium Dance, we are really looking forward to performing it in Perth Concert Hall!

Here’s a sneaky peek at our dance!

Curious Kids!

We went and explored the school grounds to find signs of animal visitors, we found a lot!  We found a deer hoof print and where they had been nibbling on a tree trunk.  We found holes and tunnels we think they might belong to moles or rabbits.

We found a half eaten mushroom we are not sure what ate it and other leaves and nuts that had been nibbled.

We are very curious to find out more about what goes on in the grounds of Grandtully Primary when we are not about.

Happy New Year!

What a great start to 2017.  We have had a busy week exploring the scots language, problem solving, thinking of ways we can ‘unslump’ ourselves when things don’t go our way and setting up a pet shop role play corner!

We have enjoyed the snowy weather and getting out and about in our snow suits (even though they take a wee while to put on!)

We have been hard at work planning our learning for the term and look forward to sharing that with you next week.

We were also really excited to welcome Jacob to Primary 2, we’ve enjoyed sharing information about our school with him.

Singing, scripts and Book Groups

Another busy week at Grandtully Primary.  We have been working hard on our French Nativity.  You can see a sneaky peek into our singing practice here

We are really looking forward to performing on Tuesday evening and are excited to see all the costumes and sets the parents have been working on.  This year the parents have worked together as a team to create our costumes and sets, we help them by giving ideas and feedback.  After the Nativity there will be a lovely buffet, all the families are bringing food to share.

We are taking part in the Christmas decoration exchange.  We received our first decoration today!  It was from Royal High Primary School in Edinburgh.

We started preparing for our French Nativity, we decided on the cast and listened to some songs.

We had a visit from Kirsteen the Animal Welfare Officer we learned about staying safe around dogs and earned a certificate!

We also enjoyed a visit from Tayside Contracts to taste lots of salads! We voted for our favourites.

Freddie’s New Adventure

Last night Grandtully School Community came together to celebrate a successful first term at school, share some delicious home grown food and watch P1-5’s film, Freddie’s New Adventure. P1-5 came up with the idea of describing what it was like on your first day at school after being inspired by the Pixar film, ‘Inside Out’. There are lots of skills involved in making a film and everybody tried out a whole range of different roles and contributed to the final 10 minute film. We learned about different jobs along the way too. Dylan Gibson, a local illustrator talked to us about the importance of storyboards and planning, then Francesca and Ricardo Bernasconi, who have their own film production company, told us all about the different jobs you have to do to make sure your film comes together the way you would like it to. We wanted to serve food at our event so we asked Lio and Chris, two of our Dad’s who are chefs to come in and advise us on how to make soup and bread. We had other super parents in to help us manage the big task of catering, thanks to Francesca and Amalie for lending a hand. We would also like to thank everyone who came along to watch our film and all the lovely feedback we got, we really enjoyed making it.

You can watch our short film by clicking on the link below. We hope you enjoy it!

Post Production Week

This week we have been finishing little bits of filming ‘pick ups’ and editing it all together. We think it’s quite a hard job but we are almost there. We have also been learning how to say the emotions in French! We had great fun learning all about our senses by doing some experiments. Patrick, Hester & Ursie’s Dad came in to help. Today on our Daily Mile we found some brambles! they were delicious.
Almost the end of term, still lots to do, it’s been a very busy start to the year, we think this term has passed by very quickly.
