Our Approach to Bullying

At Blackford Primary School, positive relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, respected and ready to learn. Our approach to bullying is grounded in our positive behviour and anti bullying policy, which understands that behaviour is communication and that equity, empathy and understanding are essential in helping children thrive.

We follow Perth & Kinross Council’s Anti‑Bullying guidance and national expectations, and we take all concerns of bullying seriously, including in‑person and online behaviours. We do not tolerate discrimination, racism, bad language, or physical and verbal aggression. Any incidents of bullying are recorded and addressed promptly by our Senior Leadership Team, who work with everyone involved to ensure safety, understanding and appropriate next steps.

Our response to bullying is relational, not punitive. In line with PKC’s Guidance, we distinguish clearly between punishment and consequences. Consequences at Blackford Primary are designed to support learning, restore relationships and repair harm.  They are logical, proportionate, respectful and tailored to the individual needs of each child. This approach helps children understand the impact of their actions, develop emotional literacy and learn positive ways to interact with others.

We use a range of supportive strategies including restorative conversations, teaching and modelling positive behaviour, co‑regulation, and working with parents and carers to ensure a consistent, compassionate approach. We also create opportunities for children to rebuild confidence and connection through natural, meaningful consequences that promote responsibility and empathy.

We are proud of the strong sense of belonging within Team Blackford. Through assemblies, class and playground charters, celebrations of success, and spaces where children can regulate with dignity and support, we ensure that every child knows they are valued and that their voice matters. Bullying has no place in our community, and we work together—staff, pupils and families—to ensure our school remains a safe, caring and positive place to learn.
