Guardians of the Garden

Our Guardians of the Garden worked hard to produce two entries in the  Gardening Scotland Festival. We are very grateful to Nicki Sinclair, Karen Yearsley, Andrew Sinclair and Drew Sinclair for all their help with the project. Both entries were awarded silver medals – very well deserved.

Red Nose Day

Thank you to everyone who bought a red nose or paid £1 to come in non uniform today. A grand total of £143.25 was raised – a brilliant total for a great cause.

Blackford Primary School is a star!

Mrs Watson spent 6 weeks on placement from college in P1/2/3 and surprised the class on her last day with a gift of a star named after Blackford Primary School! A lovely idea – we will be looking to see if we can spot it on a clear night.

We are looking forward to seeing Mrs Watson back in school as a volunteer over the next few months.

Literacy

We have been working hard in Literacy, learning our new sounds and spelling patterns. We use a number of active learning strategies, which include for example, whiteboards, games, play-doh with stampers, songs, sand and various letter types.

People who help us

P1/2 have started to learn about their new context “People Who Help Us”. We have been looking at the different people that help us in school, as well as out in the community. So far, we have had visits from Mrs McDonald (Traffic Crossing Patroller) and DC Allen (Police). We asked them a number of questions that we created within our cooperative groups. We have started to share and display the information we have gathered around the school and in our learning journal.

Christmas Carol Concert

Thank you to all our families and friends who came to our Carol Concert at the Church last night, it was lovely to see so many of you there. We think you’ll agree that the children looked and sounded super. It was great to hear our fiddle group, guitarists and hand bell ringers performing so well.

An amazing grand total of £105.70 was collected for the Christmas Day lunch being organised for people who would otherwise be on their own at Christmas – thank you so much to everyone who contributed, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Football Festival June

More success for our football team at the last festival of this session. Teams from Aberuthven, Dunning, Braco, Muthill and The Community School of Auchterarder took part and once again Blackford won – well done team! St Johnstone Football Club had arranged for the Scottish Cup to be shown to pupils at the end of the fesitival and our winning  team had their photo taken with it.
