Made in Orkney Visits

We have been on several visits as part of the Made in Orkney topic.

The Sunshine class went to visit Orkney Isles Preserves, or “The Jam Factory” which is in Shapinsay. They had a great time and got to see how the jam is made. They got to taste some too!

The Sunshine Class also visited Ortak, who make jewellery in Kirkwall.

The Stars Class visited Robin Palmer, who makes ceramics. They really enjoyed making some candle holders.

Both classes together visited Orkney Cheese, where they learned how the cheese is made. A taste testing also went down very well!

We all enjoyed taste testing various Orkney products back in school.

Our last visit was to some shops in Kirkwall, where we learned how products made in Orkney are sold here.

Our first stop was the Brig, which sells lots of locally made products.

We visited Hume Sweet Hume. They make knitwear on the island of Westray and then sell it in Kirkwall. We saw the products and had a video tour of their studio in Westray to learn how the things are made.

Our final visit was to Aurora, who told us about the products they sell such as jewellery and kilts.
