School Canteen

Currently all P 1 – 5 pupils are entitled to a free school meal.

The school operates a Cash Cafeteria system, whereby children are able to purchase a two-course meal or select from a variety of packed lunches comprising sandwiches, fruit, yoghurt, low-fat crisps and fresh juice.  A price list is available from the school office and any changes will be notified well in advance. Breakfast Club

Woodlands Primary operates a Breakfast Club from 8.15am every day. It is supervised in the canteen. Children should access the breakfast club through the main office door no earlier than 8.15am

Our breakfast club aims to:

  • provide a healthy nutritious meal.
  • help children to be alert and ready to learn.
  • encourage children to mix with their friends.
  • improve attendance and performance throughout the day.
  • reassure parents that their child is safe when dropped off in the morning.

The catering staff provide a breakfast  which includes a choice of cereal, 2 slices of wholemeal toast and a drink of orange juice or milk. This is free to pupils who are in Primary 1 to 3 and for pupils in Primary 4 to 7 who receive free school meals. For all other pupils the cost is £1 per day with a sliding scale for families of two at £1.50 per day and families of three at £1.80 per day.

Healthy Tuck Shop

Our Healthy Tuck Shop serves toast, fresh fruit, home baking, water and a variety of fruit juices. This is served during morning break from 10.15-10.40am Tuesday – Thursday.

Lunch Menu

A cafeteria operates in school providing either a traditional two-course meal price £3.10. Home baking, milk and water are also available.  This is operated using a cashless card system.  Each time your child visits the cafeteria, money will be deducted from their card.  Click the link below to see what food is on offer each week.FoodClipArt-250

Special diets can be provided for children who have a dietary condition and parents of those children should contact the Head Teacher. Children who bring a packed lunch to school are also accommodated in the dining-hall or open areas.

Children of parents receiving income support or job seeker’s allowance (income based) are entitled to a lunch without charge. Children of parents receiving Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (income based), Employment & Support Allowance (income related) are entitled to a lunch without charge. In addition, children of parents in receipt of Child Tax Credit, with a gross annual income income below £16,040 with no element of working tax credit are also entitled to a meal without charge. Children whose parents are in receipt of both maximum Child Tax Credit and maximum Working Tax Credit with an income below £6,420 are also entitled to a meal without charge.

Information and application forms for free school lunches may be obtained from schools, learning & leisure services, area offices and first stop shops. Parents are entitled to receive a clothing grant if they are in receipt of any of the following benefits: Income Support, Job Seekers Allowance (income based).  Employment & Support Allowance (income related), housing benefit, council tax rebate.

Please Note:

  1. Job Seeker’s Allowance (Contribution Based), Council Tax Discount or Council
  2.            Tax Exemption and Working Families Tax Credit are NOT qualifying benefits.
  3. Family Credit is no longer a qualifying benefit.

Only those children whose parents receive income support or job seeker’s allowance (income based) will be entitled to free milk. Milk is, however, available for purchase in the school during the lunch period.
