Glycerol in slush drinks

Parents are being advised by Food Standards Scotland not to give slush-ice drinks to children under 4, following new industry guidance. Under-10s also shouldn’t be offered free refill promotions to prevent young children being exposed to excessive amounts of glycerol.
This follows a risk assessment by the Food Standards Agency which found that children below this age may suffer from headaches and sickness caused by exposure to glycerol.
