The Visiting Services for Deaf Children and Young People is part of North Lanarkshire Council’s Education and Families Department and is one of the external support services available to all educational establishments in North Lanarkshire
The Service is staffed by a team of Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People, and the work of the team is co-ordinated by the Depute Head Teacher at Glencairn Primary School in Motherwell.
What do we Offer?
- A range of tailored support for deaf children, families and support systems.
- Provide assessment for support.
- 1-1 teaching support (pre-teaching, post-teaching, vocabulary building etc where required.
- Audiological equipment checks and liaison with Audiology Services.
- Support with auditory awareness and language development.
- Information on educational and community supports for deaf children and young people.
- Liaison with staff, multi-agency teams and parents.
- Regular reports on progress and next steps.
- Promotion of Deaf Awareness and positive Deaf Identity for children and young people.
- Support for transitions where appropriate.
