Fire Safety Talk

Today the Firefighters at Bellshill Fire Station joined Primary 6 to talk to them about Fire Safety.  They showed us some video clips about how how quickly fires can spread and keeping safe in an emergency.  We also learned about the importance of testing smoke detectors regularly and also having a fire evacuation plan.  The important message we got today was:

Get out, Stay out and Phone the Fire Brigade out!

We even had a chance to look around the fire engine and the equipment it has on it.  We learned lots and some of the equipment was very heavy too.  Take a look at our pictures:

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue for P6 pupils

Some P6 pupils were invited to attend a whole day training session at Coatbridge Fire Station to train as Junior Fire Fighters. This was a fantastic experience for our pupils and as you can see from the photographs they had a wonderful day.
They learned how to use fire hoses and attach them to the fire tender, then put out a ‘fire’ in a car! They also learned how to get someone out of a smoke filled room using the same procedures as real fire fighters and they rescued ‘Wee Bob’ and ‘Big Bob’.
During the day they were taught the dangers of fire and safety tips.Transport Police also spoke to them about the dangers of going on train lines and electricity.
This was a very exciting day and pupils learned so much and they all agreed it was ‘THE BEST SCHOOL TRIP EVER!’

Fire Safety Visit

Two local Fire fighters came along to assembly last week to talk to the children about fire safety in preparation for Bonfire Night.  They spoke about what to wear to keep safe and advised us to attend professional, organised fireworks displays.  They had a very entertaining presentation involving some of the pupils dressing up as fire fighters.  Our two work experience students also demonstrated Stop-Drop-Roll techniques dressed in fire fighter’s uniforms.
