CELEBRATE BOOK WEEK SCOTLAND 2013 IN NORTH LANARKSHIRE!

Pick from a packed programme of author visits and events to help us celebrate Book Scotland:~ admission to all events is free

MOTHERWELL LIBRARY
Motherwell’s first event is at 7pm on Thursday 28th, when the library welcomes author Doug Johnstone.~ In 2012 he had an Amazon number-one best seller with Hit and Run and his latest novel, Gone Again, was published in March. Doug has been selected as a Fiction Uncovered winner and will discuss his writing style and career with his audience.

The next event is on Saturday 30th at 2pm, with author Des McAnulty.~ Des will be telling of his themes and experiences behind his cult debut novel, Life is Local, set in Motherwell during the summer of 2002.~ The novel explodes with passion and intrigue, as hero Stevie Costello tries to reconcile his dreams with reality. All set against the bizarre suicide of his girlfriend and the failed marriage of his boss Alastair and tortuous relationship of his best friends Stubbsy and Lisa.

AIRDRIE LIBRARY
Wednesday 27th at 7pm sees Airdrie Library host popular teenage author Janice Brown.~ Janice has now embarked on a new direction, with her latest work ‘Hartsend’ for adults, now available.~ She will discuss her new book and the interplay of its 13 characters, who all have rich and complicated inner lives – and persistently, almost wilfully, fail to understand the others.

On Friday 29th November in Airdrie Library, join ex-Airdrieonians forward Willie McGuire who has seen his first book go on sale. The delighted 56-year-old published his debut novel – a mystery thriller titled ‘Missing’ – following a three-year battle to see it in print.~ Chapelhall man Willie took matters into his own hands after advice from novelist and former journalist Anna Smith, who also lives in the village.

A different style of event will be hosted by the library on Saturday 30th between 10am and 12 noon.~ Titled ‘Scotland’s War – A First World War Roadshow’ the event is part of the national ‘Scotland’s War’ series of archive events, marking the centenary of the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914.~ There will be a panel of experts on hand to look at artefacts and help with queries or family history investigations dating from the war years.

COATBRIDGE LIBRARY
Also on the Saturday, popular storyteller and musician Gerry Durkinwill make a return trip to Coatbridge Library.~ From 2 to 3pm, Gerry will entertain with his blend of modern and traditional tales, livened with humour and a strum or two on the guitar.

CUMBERNAULD LIBRARY
On Thursday 28th~ at 7pm, walker and author Peter Wright OBEwill take his audience on a journey from the Southern Uplands to Caithness, bringing to life his book ‘Ribbon of Wilderness: Discovering the Watershed of Scotland’.~ His trip took him through Palacerigg Country Park, Cumbernauld, Banknock~ and on to the Kilsyth Hills and the Campsies.
