When we arrived in school this morning, we were delighted and surprised to discover that we now have…9 chicks.
We have 1 egg left to hatch which is moving around quite a lot and already has a small crack on it. Fingers crossed it hatches today!!
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the show of the year. Some of our Primary 4-7 pupils supported by Primary 6 as the choir are putting on their performance of Joseph.
Tickets are now available from the school for each performance on Wednesday 14th May and Thursday 15th May from 7pm-9pm. Adult tickets can be bought for £3, and children/OAP tickets for £2.
Moved to our new home!
The first 5 chicks have hatched and they have now been moved into the incubator. We are loving our new additions. All pupils in the nursery and school had a chance to go into today and their teachers will continue taking them for visits while we have the chicks here. There are still five eggs that haven’t hatched yet. We may be lucky and see some more chicks tomorrow.
Tannochside’s Chicks – The First Three!
Tannochside’s Chicken
New Addition
We have a chick!! Overnight 1 of our eggs has hatched and we have our first chick. We think it may be a boy as it looks quite yellow underneath but we will need to wait until it fully dries to see. It is patiently chirping and tapping the other eggs to find itself a friend. Photos to follow.
Chickens are here!!
It may have been quiet day with no children at Tannochside Primary today but there was still a huge buzz of excitement as we waited for the arrival of our chicken eggs. They arrived and instead of the 4 eggs we were expecting we have 10!! It is expected that the eggs will hatch over the next 48 hours and Mr Flannigan has set up a camera to take photographs every 5 seconds so that we can capture them hatching. We will keep the chicks in school for a couple of weeks so that the children can look at the life cycle of a chicken and their inherited characteristics (just a few of our learning opportunities). Any parent who would be interested in keeping some chicks as their own once they have hatched please contact Mrs Fleck so that I can give you further information. Keep watching for photos!!
World Book Day
There were a lot of strange characters in and around Tannochside Primary School today as we celebrated World Book Day. Many of the children and staff were dressed up as book characters. We had Funny Bones skeletons, Oompa Loompas and Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Horrid Henrys, Cruella Deville and some of her dalmations and many, many more characters. We even spent some time trying to find Wally from Where’s Wally in each of the classes.
Every class chose a winner who received a World Day Book. An overall winner was chosen from each department and each of these children received a £5 book token to spend at the Book Fair next week. The overall winners were:
Nursery a.m – Calvin
Nursery p.m – Dana
P1-3 – Brodie
P4/5 – Evan
P6/7 – Corey
We even had a staff competition but the Pupil Council couldn’t decide on an outright winner so Mrs Ferrie (Cruella Deville) and Mr Flannigan (Cat in the Hat) had to share the goodie box prize.
A huge thank you to everyone for making such an effort today. Photos to follow later.
Book Fair
The book fair will be arriving in school on Friday 7th March 2014. Children and parents will be given opportunities to browse and buy from the selection of books from Monday 10th – Thursday 13th of March 2014.
Further details of times and promotions will be posted on here soon.
World Book Day
World Book Day will be celebrated on Thursday 6th March 2014. Children and Staff are being encouraged to dress up as a book character. There will be prizes for the best dressed from each class and stage, and for the best dressed staff member! The children are being asked to bring £1 on the day too.
We are all looking forward to seeing everyone dressed up on the day and celebrating the joy of reading!
