News from Mrs Denney

I have been asked by the authority to become Acting Head Teacher at Kilsyth Primary School to cover the Head Teacher’s absence until Christmas. I will miss being at Tannochside next term but will be back in the New Year. I know all the boys and girls will be working hard with their teachers and I will look forward to hearing all their news and achievements when I return.

Road Safety Roadshow

The entire school had a fabulous time learning about Road Safety with members of staff from Norbet Dentressangle haulage company.  Two massive HGV lorries were parked in our car park all day and every class got to look round them.  The teachers had the difficult job of clambeing up in to the cabs to find out just how difficult it is to see pedestrians and other road users if they come too close to the lorries.

The company also donated gifts for each child and prizes for a competition.  Thank you very much to the three staff members from Norbert Dentressangle for a wonderful experience.

Healthy Eating at Tannochside

As a Gold Health Promoting School, we encourage the children to make healthy choices when it comes to food.  This year, Mrs Burke has organised a Fruit Point system.  For every piece of fresh fruit eaten by a pupil during the school day, they earn one point.  The person with the most points in each Bay at the end of the month wins some exotic fruit to enjoy.

We are very lucky to be supported by Morrisons supermarket in Bellshill with this initiative, who gift the fruit prizes every month.

Special Visitors for Primary 1

Primary 1 are learning about Welcoming a Baby in Christianity.  Last week, two special visitors came in especially to see all the boys and girls.  Mrs Fleck brought in her baby niece and young son.  All the children were really interested to find out about the baby’s Christening.  We got to see her beautiful Christening gown and were told about the day’s events.  Here are some pictures of the visit.

On the farm…

We have been learning about changing seasons through the context of a farm. Mrs McGregor has a friend who is a farmer on the Isle of Iona in Scotland. This week we wrote letters to Farmer John to ask him lots of questions. We hope he will reply to us soon and maybe send us some photographs.
