Thursday afternoon

Good news – the weather has improved enough for the children to head our for afternoon activities. Some are enjoying the safari, others are headed to the water or to ski. Despite the weather, we’ve still managed to achieve a lot today.

Everyone’s really excited for the disco tonight and then our week is almost over. I think some of the children would like to stay longer though!

Thursday mid-morning

All’s well at Kilbowie – the wind is definitely dying down now and everyone is fine. We’re having a pyjama/onesie morning and we’ve just played a great teachers v pupils quiz. Of course, the teachers won (and there was no cheating – honest).

We’re now off to have a team-building challenge game, with lots of stations.  We’re not letting a wee bit of wind spoil our day!

See you soon!

Thursday morning

Good morning from a windy Oban!

Last nights activities were great fun – the children loved the nightline and most of them managed to get round without lifting their blindfold. They were really pleased with the achievement.

Afterwards they had to have their waterproofs and wellies hosed down. Mr Clark had the challenging task of doing this – it was quite cold so his hands were getting a bit slippy. He might have accidentally wetted some people’s hair and face (just a little bit) and a couple of times the hose accidentally got stuck down a welly boot, or the back of a jacket. Whoops!

its been a bit of a windy night, yet the children had the best nights sleep so far!  There’s a chance we might need to have indoor activities this morning as it’s still a bit blustery. It’s forecast to die down a bit around 11ish, so we should get out and about this afternoon.

Dinner tonight is either Fish and Chips or Vegetable Quiche, followed by Article roll and jelly!  Yum.

Wednesday dinner time

Hi everyone.  It’s all good from Kilbowie on a fairly mild Wednesday afternoon.

Today’s activities for Tannochside were Mountain Biking, Skiing and Climbing before lunch.  After lunch it was camping for some, (with a real camp fire to toast marshmallows), exploring the wildlife with the Safari activity or orienteering in the grounds.  The children all seem very happy with their day – and lots of them are talking about new skills that they have developed – riding bikes, making camps, identifying birds etc.

Tonights dinner is either Steak Pie or Vegetarian sausages, with cocounut cake for desert.

The moment Mr. Clark has been waiting for all week is nearly upon us tonight – the Nightline!  The children will be finding their way around the woods near the building as a team – with their blindfolds on.  At the end of the activity, Mr. Clark gets to hose all of the children down!  Great fun!

The weather forecast for tomorrow looks a little windy, but the instructors are confident that the activities will still be able to go ahead!

Tuesday Evening at Kilbowie

All’s well at Kilbowie this evening and the weather is not too bad – dry but a little chilly.

After a dinner of either Vegetable Couscous or Pasta and wedges, with muffin and custard for desert, the children had a bit of free time and their tuck (even more food!).  The evening activities tonight were two games – one was a scavenger hunt for different items around the centre (things like a picture of the queen’s head, three blades of grass, the website address etc).

The second was “Who wants to be a Millionaire”.  The children worked in teams to answer question and puzzles to work up the money values.  The difference to the TV programme was that the teachers had the questions – and we were hiding around the building.  When the children found us, they had to either ask for the question or give the answer and then look for the next teacher.  It was quite tricky – especially as the teachers kept moving (Ha ha!).

Now that the fun and games are over, its time for a light supper and then bed – and boy will we sleep tonight!  Everyone is ready for their bed.

Afraid we can’t post any pictures yet, as the internet is not so fast here.  But we will get some online as soon as we’re back on Friday.

Tuesday dinner time at Kilbowie

Hi everyone.

We’ve had a great time today and the weather hasn’t been too bad – its been a bit damp at times, but it has been mostly dry and quite mild.

We started the day with a hearty breakfast of cereal, toast, jams and hot tea.  Just what we needed to set ourselves up for the day.

There was lots of activities for the children today – in the morning the Tannochside pupils were either Gorge walking, hill walking or skiing.  Everyone was kitted out in the correct gear – wetsuites for Gorge walking, waterproofs for walking and ski boots, skis and gloves for the slope.  Mr. Clark and Mrs Kearney braved the freezing temperatures of the gorge and worked with the pupils to scale a waterfall.  Miss Brogan and Miss Grenfell went on the adventure walk and explored caves and hillsides with their groups.

Lunch was filled rolls, hot soup and fruit and before we knew it, it was time for afternoon activities – either gorge walking, skiing or rock climbing.  All of the teachers demonstrated their skills on the slopes!

Everyone has had a great day and we’re ready for dinner and finding out what the evening activity will be.  So far, every child has a huge smile on their faces all day long and everyone is amazed at what they have achieved so far.

We’ll try and read some of your messages out to the children who want to hear them later on.

Kilbowie – Monday Night

Hello everyone from a rather blustery Kilbowie!

We arrived safely at 1pm and enjoyed a lunch of filled rolls, fruit and crisps.  The children found out their activity groups, met their group leader for the week and found out their bedroom allocations.  Everyone seemed quite happy with the arrangements.  After the bed-making challenge (always a highlight for the teachers!)  the children met with their instructor to get their kit for the week and to do an activity.  For most of the groups this was an adventure walk around the grounds and surrounding beach area.

Would you believe that every group then got an opportunity to jump into the sea!  In December!  The children said it was cold, but were glad they had risen to the challenge.

A dinner of meatballs or pasta, followed by Caramel cake soon gave everyone some energy for the evening activity.

There was two activities tonight, the airport game, where the children have to find their way around the building following clues related to airports, and then orienteering, which required the children to work in teams to identify landmarks around the grounds.  Despite the drizzle, the children had fun running around the place, trying to be first finished.

A light supper of sandwiches and juice finished the evening off nicely.  The children are all now tucked up in bed, ready for the day ahead.

We’re second sitting for breakfast, which means we have to wait until 8.45am – but we’ll enjoy the cereal, toast and hot tea on offer just the same.

Dinner tomorrow is either Chicken pasta or Vegetable bake with cuscus.  The raspberry muffin and ice-cream sound good too!

We’ll post again tomorrow – please leave comments for the children and we’ll read some out to them later on.
