Toady is Martin Luther King Jr Day in the USA. It is a public holiday to commemorate his non violent activism in the Civil Rights Movement during the 1950s and 60s.
MLK Jr wanted Americans to be equal regardless of the colour of their skin and he encouraged non violent protests to draw attention to the fact that black Americans were being discriminated against. He became very well known globally, but was assassinated in 1968.
