Taylor High School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of its Rock Band, Silvrtone, who were crowned winners of the North Lanarkshire Schools Battle of the Bands 2026. Competing against 13 bands on the night, the group impressed both the judges and the audience with a confident and dynamic performance.
On the morning of the competition, Mrs Muir, Head of Expressive Arts, encouraged the band to perform with confidence, reminding them that their talent charisma should be something other bands admired. Her message was simple and powerful: trust your ability, take the stage with belief, and let the music speak for itself.
Their set featured a powerful rendition of the classic rock anthem “Born to Be Wild”, followed by an original composition titled “Vena Cava.” The combination of a well-known rock classic and their own creative work showcased the band’s versatility and musical maturity, helping secure them the top position in the competition.
This victory marks a remarkable progression from last year’s competition. In 2025, the group were the youngest performers taking part and achieved an impressive third place. On that occasion, they performed “One Way or Another” by Blondie along with their own original song, “Meridian.” Their continued growth over the past year has clearly paid off, culminating in this year’s well‑deserved first place.
The Taylor High School Rock Band is made up of a talented group of S5 pupils, each contributing their unique musical strengths to the ensemble:
Thomas Reily – Lead Vocals
Max Allison – Drum Kit
Lucy White – Guitar
Adam Formosa – Bass Guitar
Ava Bradley – Guitar

Our congratulations also go to Brannock High School, who were awarded second place, and Dalziel High School, who placed third. The Individual Performer Award was presented to a student from St Maurice’s High School.
As part of their success, the Taylor High School Music Department has received a £300 prize, which the band will use to select equipment from Haydock Music in Glasgow.
Mrs Muir said: “We are incredibly proud of the band and the dedication they have shown throughout the year. Their commitment to rehearsals, their creativity in writing original music, and their confidence on stage were outstanding. Winning this competition is a fantastic achievement for them and very well deserved.”
Taylor High School extends its warmest congratulations to Silvrtone for this fantastic accomplishment. Their success is a source of pride for the entire school community, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next.
