NLC Scottish Young Musician of the Year Heats

Last night, Louisa (S1) represented Taylor High School at the North Lanarkshire Council heats for the Scottish Young Musician of the Year competition. She played Billie’s Song with such musical maturity and brought the piano to life with her attention to detail. A very special performance. If you see her, please congratulate her on her performance and for representing us. It wasn’t her year this year, but her music future is very bright.
Congratulations to the winner who will go on to compete in the Scottish Final at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire and of course 2 runners up.

The Barista bar will be in full swing alongside a tuck shop to purchase some refreshments. Our raffle hamper is also looking like it will be full of fancy goodies for a lucky winner. If you can’t make it along for the main event in the evening, don’t despair, the silent auction begins at 4 pm.

VOCAL COACHING with Siobhan McCauley

We have been very lucky to secure Siobhan McCauley for three 2-hour Future Friday sessions, to support our SQA singers in their final preparations for their SQA Music practical exam next week. This included learners from S4, S5 & S6 sitting National 5, Higher & Advanced Higher Music. The singers have been focussing on mood & character, breathing techniques, projection and fundamentally building confidence for their exam performance.

Siobhan McAuley has been immersed in musical performance from an early age. At the age of five she joined the Glasgow Youth Choir singing as a soloist and touring throughout Europe. Since graduating from the RSAMD (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) Siobhan has continued to perform solo in operas, recitals and nationwide competitions. Highlights she recalls include playing principal cast roles in Mozart’s Magic Flute and Marriage of Figaro, Puccini’s La Bohème, Berlioz’s Nativity and Faure’s Requiem. More recently Siobhan has led the cast of London’s West End hit show The Lion King building up a reputation as one of the UK’s leading vocal coaches. Siobhan is the founder and creative director of the Ayrshire Infinity Choir.
