On Wednesday 3rd December, our school choir was delighted to be invited to perform at the festive celebrations in Maxim Park. Forty-four young people travelled up to take part in the event, filling the park with beautiful carols and Christmas songs for workers and visitors to enjoy.

As part of the festivities, a charming mini Christmas Market was set up in the park, featuring more than 20 vendors offering Gifts, Bakery treats, Art, Home décor, Pampering & Wellness products, and a delicious variety of Food stalls. The atmosphere was truly magical, with lights, music, and festive cheer all around.

The choir members were also treated to a special surprise as a thank you for their performance. They had the chance to feed Santa’s reindeer and were given hot chocolate and mini pancakes, which added to the excitement and enjoyment of the day.

It was a memorable afternoon for everyone involved, and we are proud of our young singers for representing the school so wonderfully.

S1 were treated to a performance from Mr. Nelson our snare drumming instructor and Mr. Sommerville our bagpipe instructor. They were in to promote lessons with them.  Around 8% of S1’s signed up for a trial.

Research has overwhelmingly demonstrated just how beneficial the study of music is for everyone, but particularly for young people. The cognitive processes that students use and develop while playing music are then transferred to learning in other curricular areas, resulting in better overall rates of success in school.

While parents may initially have concerns about their children leaving class to come to music lessons, the long term the benefits of learning musical instruments far outweigh any short term negative impacts of being out of class. Our Junior Rock Band made their debut at our P7 Open Evening after only forming 6months ago. Go on, have a listen! They are fabulous.
