What are Pathways?

The purpose of the pathways program is to ensure that all learners make informed choices on next steps in learning which match their aspirations. Picking the correct pathway to life beyond school is the first step in making informed choices about what subjects to study and enjoy through learning. While developing skills for Life, Learning and Work, leaners experience a broad range of subjects and experiences which are vital to their progression to a positive destination beyond Taylor High School.

Through wide ranging support from PSHE learning, Pupil Support, Skills Development Scotland (SDS) and our DYW team, all learners have the opportunity to discuss pathways with a key adult to ensure appropriate subject choices match skills and aspirations to maximise attainment and achievements.

What Choices Do Learners Make?

•All learners at the end of S2, S3, S4 and S5 will make subject option choices

•The choice process allows learners to specialise in areas of the curriculum which they have an interest in or aspire to move onto a career in.

•At each option point in S3 & S4 – learners narrow their curriculum allowing them to spend more time in each of their chosen subjects. In S5 and S6, the options represent the time to maximise attainment in subjects prior to leaving the school at the end of S6 and there is a clear focus on links to industry and career skills..
