Pupils in primary 7 transfer to Taylor High School in New Stevenston. Arrangements for transfer start in August when our pupils join some of the other associated primaries to attend Taylor High School on Thursday mornings until the October holiday. On one of those visits, parents are invited to join their child. This proved to be a very successful part of the transition process.
The Head Teacher and Depute Head Teacher arrange a meeting with the parents of the P7 pupils in St Mary’s School to present the S1 curriculum and discuss any issues which may arise.
In May or June the P7 pupils spend two days following a timetable in Taylor High.
Head Teachers of the associated primaries meet with the Depute Head Teacher of Taylor High, at least termly, to discuss transition arrangements and the transfer of information between schools. The P7 class teacher has an opportunity to discuss pupil progress with staff prior to the end of the session.
In June 2012 we initiated the Pupil Profile which was very well received by pupils, parents and staff in Taylor High. The profile was a focus for discussion when staff met P7 pupils individually at the end of P7 and again at the ‘settling in’ meeting prior to Christmas in Taylor High School.
