P5/6 have been investigating bridges as part of their ‘Glasgow’ topic this term. We have been looking at the River Clyde and the bridges over the river.
Today, we all became civil engineers for a team challenge. Each group had to work together and apply their new knowledge of forces to create a bridge out of paper, sellotape and paperclips for a toy car to travel over. If this wasn’t challenging enough, they had just £100 to spend and had to keep track of their expenses (£10 for a sheet of paper, £3 for two paperclips and £10 for a 10cm strip of sellotape!). The groups had half an hour to plan and complete their bridges.
A very interesting afternoon with lots of lessons to be learned in teamwork, decision making and communication! We will repeat the task again within the next week to see if the children can improve their skills.
Well done P5/6 on a very challenging task!
