School Committees: Pupil Voice

St Joseph’s Pupil Voice Committees

At St Joseph’s, every pupil belongs to a school committee, working together across stages with support from Lead Teachers. These committees give children a real voice in shaping our school community and provide meaningful opportunities for leadership, collaboration, and inclusion.

Each committee develops its own aims and takes part in projects and tasks that help achieve their shared goals. Through this, our pupils make a genuine difference within St Joseph’s and in the wider community.

Being part of a committee helps pupils grow as Effective Contributors and Responsible Citizens, as outlined in the Curriculum for Excellence. They build confidence, take responsibility, and learn how their actions can positively impact others. Committees also support the development of a wide range of meta-skills and skills for learning, life and work, helping pupils prepare for future challenges in and beyond school.

Our approach is linked to the UNCRC and the UN Global Goals, encouraging children to understand their rights, take part in decision-making, and work towards creating a fairer, more sustainable world.

At St Joseph’s, our pupils’ voices matter—they lead, they influence, and they help our school community thrive.
