Head Teacher’s Message

Hello and welcome to our school website!

Thank you for taking the time to find out about our excellent school. I hope that this site gives you a flavour of what we do here in St Joseph’s, where a dedicated staff team work to provide an environment which is safe and happy and where the quality of experiences offered to every school user is excellent. As a school we are proud to be part of the community of Cardowan, Stepps & Millerston. Our pupils are provided with a very wide range of opportunities to be Responsible Citizens, Successful Learners, Confident Individuals and Effective Contributors so that the whole community will be enriched.

As a Catholic School we are delighted to have the support of the Parish clergy and the community at St Joseph’s Parish where the children are welcomed and encouraged to participate fully in the life of our church. Our school community is enriched by members of other faiths and we enjoy finding out about their faiths and celebrating with them.

We have a Parent Council and a PTA, both of which are extremely active and supportive of the pupils, staff & parents. If you decide to send your child here you would be warmly welcomed into the parent forum. We aim to be a learning community and every single member is valued, included and expertise is warmly welcomed and utilised appropriately.

We have achieved Gold status as a Health Promoting School, Fair Trade status and we are working towards obtaining our second Green Flag as an Eco school. We have a trim trail and an outside classroom in the grounds and the gardening club grow flowers, fruit & vegetables in the garden some of which we use in our cookery classes.

Every child in our school is encouraged to support school improvement and we encourage their participation in planning and evaluating our ‘performance’. The recent introduction of Saint Joseph’s Pupil Voice Groups has facilitated this and we are delighted by the impact of this on our school community. Our children recently carried out an exercise to create a mission statement or motto for our school and they decided on – Saint Joseph’s Primary School: A community of Love, Laughter and Learning. I believe that this encompasses everything we aim to achieve here in Saint Joseph’s and these three ‘aims’ are evident from the moment you enter our school campus.  Our Pupil Council are currently updating our Vision, Values and Aims following collaboration with all members of our school and wider community.

Our children are reflective in everything they say, do and think and use the word Respect to support them daily. We are blessed with excellent children who are very well placed to learn and achieve appropriately.

I hope that you enjoy finding out more about St Joseph’s Primary as you browse this site. I wish to thank all staff who have taken on the responsibility of maintaining this site and keeping it up to date. They are very proud of their achievement and I hope that you enjoy browsing it and finding out what life in Saint Joseph’s Primary School is like.

It is an absolute privilege to be head teacher in such a wonderful school and I look forward to further developments and celebrations in the near future.

If you would like to make any suggestions for our website or indeed for our school improvement agenda, I encourage you to let us know. We value queries and suggestions and are always looking for ways to improve the experiences we provide.

Kind regards,

Brendan McCloskey

Head Teacher
