GIRFEC

Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC)

GIRFEC is Scotland’s national approach to supporting the wellbeing of children and young people. It helps schools, families, and services work together to ensure every child gets the right support at the right time. At its heart is a commitment to helping children grow, learn, and thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.

At St Joseph’s Primary, we use GIRFEC to guide how we support pupils—focusing on eight wellbeing indicators: Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible, and Included. These help us understand each child’s needs and tailor support accordingly.

👤 Named Person
To ensure every child has someone looking out for their wellbeing, each pupil has a Named Person.

At St Joseph’s, this is Brendan McCloskey (Head Teacher). He is your first point of contact if you have any concerns or questions about your child’s wellbeing or support needs.

GIRFEC is about working together—with children, families, and professionals—to get it right, every time.
