Peer Mediation

Peer mediation teaches pupils the skills necessary to resolve problems both at school and in their own lives.

Each year our Primary 7 pupils are trained, and then volunteer if they want to carry out this vital role on a regular basis.

Peer Mediators do not take sides.

They do not tell other pupils what to do.

They encourage their classmates to talk to each other to solve their own problems.

However, they also know when to involve an adult.

There are 5 main skills used in Peer Mediation:

LISTENING

CONCENTRATING

TALKING

THINKING

LOOKING

There are 5 magic questions which are asked by the peer mediators:

1. What happened?

2. What were you thinking?

3. How did you feel?

4. Who else has been affected?

5. What do you need?

Look out for a Peer Mediator in a playground near YOU!
