Stepps Primary School

Growing Together, Learning Together, Achieving Together.

We aim to work in partnership with all families connected with our school.  At the simplest level, we encourage home/school communication via a notebook your child carries in his/her school bag.  If you need to speak to a member of staff urgently, please call at the school office to arrange a meeting, or contact us by telephone on 01236 757692.

If your child attends Stepps Primary School you are a member of our Parent Forum.  As such, you are invited to attend any meetings of our Parent Council, or Parent/Teacher Association (PTA).  An Annual General Meeting for both of these parent groups is held in September.

Although both of these groups are run for parents by parents, they each fulfil a different role.

Our PTA is primarily a fund raising group, which organises school and community events throughout the session.  Over recent years the PTA has organised pupil discos, family ceilidhs, family quiz nights, Christmas Fayres, Summer Fun Days and more!  As a result of their hard work we now have a wide range of new resources, such as an interactive Smart Board in every classroom bay, several iPads and a valuable stock of quality novels.  Our PTA also provides gifts for our P.1 pupils as they enter school and our P.7s as they move on to high school.  All funds raised go straight to helping our pupils in a practical way.

The Parent Council works closely with the Head Teacher to support the school in its work with pupils.  It represents the views of parents and carers, encourages links between the school, parents and carers, pupils, pre-school groups and the wider community.  It is for current parents to decide what is most important for our Parent Council to work on.

Parent Councils can:

• provide a voice for parents in school and in the local authority on issues that are important to them and their children

• help the school to understand how to most effectively involve parents in their children’s learning and in the life of the school

• support the school and Headteacher in developing strong home/school partnerships

• support the school in its development and improvement, and in understanding and making links with the wider community

• capture the unique and varied skills, interests, knowledge and experience that parents can offer

Parent Councils provide an opportunity for parents to get involved in ways that suit them, and to support their school in getting the best education for all the pupils.
