Summer Fun Day 2016

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of our Summer Fun Day 2016.  Many local groups joined us to provide the wider Stepps community with the opportunity to try new sports, learn new skills or simply have fun in the sun.

The event was officially opened at midday by Jennifer Glasgow, Miss Glasgow 2016, an ex-pupil of the school.  Then for the next two and a half hours it was smiles all around as residents young and old joined forces to dance, bounce, bowl, golf, eat…and the list goes on!

Huge thanks must go to our PTA.  Your hard work is appreciated by everyone here in Stepps!

Riverside Museum

Primary 1 also visited the Riverside museum where we saw lots of different trams, trains, cars and even a penny farthing bicycle. We enjoyed hopping on and off the trams and driving ambulances and underground trains!! It was a great day but this merry band of pirates were tired and some even fell asleep on the journey home!

Yo! Ho! Ho! Primary 1s Pirate Adventure (Part 3) Riverside Museum

Not only did we get to go on the pirate ship but we also got to visit the Riverside Museum. We have some very observant pupils in Primary 1S. Calum looked at the outside of the Riverside museum and said. “Mrs Shaw do you think they build that to look like the sails of a boat?”

While inside the museum Holly was delighted to share her information with the rest of the group as she had been before but she kept saying things like:

“Mrs Shaw that’s a really old fashioned car!”

“Mrs Shaw look at that really old fashioned bicycle!”

and

“Mrs Shaw look at those really old fashioned buses!”

While all I kept thinking was that I used to drive a car like that

or I remember my bicycle like that!!!! (and no it wasn’t a Penny Farthing!)

Yo! Ho! Ho! Primary 1s Pirate Adventure (Part 2)

When we got onto the Glenlee We all had a chance to explore the ship. Then we met some other pirates. There was “Scary Mary” and “Bonnie Annie”!! They tested out the new crew by making sure we knew all about the different parts of the ship and that  we knew about some of the real pirates that lived a long time ago. Then was the fun part…..

we got to go on a real treasure hunt! We had a treasure map and had to follow the clues. All of the answers were numbers but we didn’t know why until… We found the treasure chest and we needed to unlock the padlock but luckily the boys and girls all remembered the numbers and we managed to unlock the chest. The only bad thing was we weren’t allowed to bring the treasure back to Stepps Primary as Bonnie Annie told us that Captain Scallywag would come hunting for us!!! We didn’t want that.

The Tall Ship

Primary 1 visited the Tall Ship and enjoyed being a pirate for the day. We labelled a Pirate Ship and sang some pirate shanties. We scrubbed the decks and searched for treasure. We knew exactly what to do and say when the Captain was coming! However, I think one of the best parts of the trip was our visit to the Gift Shop!!

Painting With Scissors

Last term we learned about the artwork of Henri Matisse. In later life, Matisse lost the ability to draw and paint due to illness. Instead he used coloured paper and cut different shapes to make images. He had assistants who would move the paper around a blank canvas for him and then stick it where he asked. To finish the topic, P7M tried this themselves this week. They all cut their shapes and then had a partner move the paper until they were happy with the image they created. The finished image shows how our fantastic teamwork can create great work and keep the school looking bright and colourful! Have a look at the images below.
