Maths

We’ve been enjoying counting and forming our numbers since the beginning of the year. Everyone is now doing really well and counting to ten and back again. Here are a few pictures of the active ways we have been practising counting.

Remarkable Romans Topic

What a fast first term it has been in Primary 5/4 where we have been learning all about the Romans in our Social Studies topic.  We had a homework challenge to create something to share with the class to show knowledge of the Romans. What an amazing array of items to show and share.

School Trip to Motherwell Heritage Centre – Wednesday 16th November

We had such an amazing day at Motherwell Heritage Centre where we shared our Roman facts and learned even more with Hugh, our amazing Guide for the day. We got to dress up, learn about togas, Roman armour, march just like in the Roman army and learn about Roman cooking, the Bath houses and a closer look at coins. We also got the opportunity to show our artistic and design flair when we were given materials to create our own shields.  The last part of the trip was up the tower where we could see the amazing views in all directions.  An amazing school trip that everyone enjoyed and we would love to go back there again.

Term 2 Update

We are halfway through Term 2 already, and P6/5 have been hard at work.

The class is getting ready to conduct their Chemical Change experiments this week, after having spent the last few weeks designing these experiments in their science teams. After that, we are going to continue the science theme by exploring how different parts of the human body work.

We have been building on our reading skills this term, with a paricular emphasis on recognising and answering different types of questions. This is proving to be quite a challenge to many of us as we get used to the categories of questions, so pupils have been supporting each other by leaving tips in our Yammer group.

In maths, the class has worked hard at developing our division knowledge, and now we are looking at Time, focussing on analogue, digital, 12 hour and 24 hour times, as well as how Time is important in our lives. Although our main lessons are moving away from numeracy, pupils still get to keep their number skills fresh with regular mental maths sessions during the week, and we have been experimenting with some Big Maths activities to allow pupils to track their mental maths progress. Sumdog accounts remain available for P6/5 to play some games and develop their confidence at their own speed.

Food Glorious Food!

Primary 5 recently visited Westerboard Farm to learn more about dairy farming. We have been finding out about the journey of food from its source to the supermarket shelves. It was exciting to see a working farm and be able to have some questions answered by the farmers.

Celebrating Pudsey’s Special Day, 2016!

There was a lot of choice when it came to costumes for this year’s Children in Need Day event.  We had the chance to wear a onesie, yellow, spots, superhero gear, princess costume or just dress-down for the day.  As you can see we had the full range…

Thank you to everyone for your participation and generous donations!

Children In Need

Friday is a dress up/ dress down day for pupils. For a small donation of £1.00, pupils can come to school wearing something spotty, something yellow, dress as a superhero or princess, wear  a onesie or a combination of all of the above!

We look forward to seeing all the colourful outfits.

The Pupil Voice Committee will also be selling mini cupcakes for 30p ( while stocks last).
