Vulnerable Road User Campaign 19-25 June 2017

We are always working with our pupils to encourage healthy journeys to school, i.e. walking, cycling, scooting, etc, but this goes hand-in-hand with considerate driving behaviours from the motorists in and around the school.  Thank you to all those who park in designated parking bays, or out with the school grounds.  We will continue to reinforce this road safety message throughout the coming session.  However, this week we are delighted to support the VULNERABLE ROAD USERS CAMPAIGN currently underway locally.  Please see the information below:

Vulnerable Road User Campaign: 19 to 25 June 2017

Between Monday 19th and Sunday 25th June, in conjunction with our Roads Policing colleagues, Lanarkshire Division will be engaging with the public to educate, enforce and positively influence road user behaviour.

There will be various strands to the campaign which will include:

  • educating children and young people walking and cycling on roads
  • motorcycle safety
  • speeding
  • inconsiderate driving behaviours

Our aim is to reduce road incidents.  As such, we wish to engage with as many people as possible.  Working with our community planning partners, we would like to cascade the message and encourage children, young people and adults alike to take responsibility for their own safety and to be mindful of the hazards walking and cycling on the roads present.

You can find out more about what we’re up to on Facebook and Twitter using the hash tag #GoSafeRoadSafe.

With your help, we can reduce the number of children, young people and families affected by road collisions.  A Scotland where no one is seriously hurt or killed on the roads is our ambition.

Our partners at www.roadsafetyscotland.org.uk and www.cyclingscotland.org are excellent sources of information and resource.

Over the week, our local problem solving team officers will be liaising with local schools and delivering appropriate advice to staff, pupils and parents alike.

Lanarkshire Division appreciates the assistance the local authority gives as a partner to keep people safe in North Lanarkshire

Bowling Team Success

On Sunday 18th June, ten of our P5 & P6 pupils represented Stepps Primary in the local area Glasbowl final at Stepps Bowling Club. After two and a half hours of exciting bowling, we were delighted to win first place and third place – an amazing achievement.

As usual, our sporting ambassadors demonstrated great sportsmanship and teamwork. Well done to everyone in Team Stepps, we are extremely proud of you!

Outdoor Learning – Creating a Shelter

We were making the most of the dry weather and were out doing some outdoor learning. The main Learning Intention to was to work co-operatively as a team to create a shelter that your whole team could fit into. Some of the teams managed to fully achieve this learning intention and some worked very hard and nearly achieved it.

Sports Day

Primary 5 really had a lot of fun at sports day today. Luckily the rain stayed off. First we did the potted sports and then we took part in a few different races. Lots of parents and carers were there to cheer us on.

Rainforest Art Work

We have been learning all about the Rainforest in Primary 5D this term. We learned how to draw a toucan by using an online tutorial. Then we used oil pastels to colour our toucans. We had to use a variety of colours on the beak to get a nice blended look. Some of the children wanted to post pictures of their art work on the school blog so all of the children got to take a photograph of their partners toucan and Jessica then imported the pictures on to the computer to post on our blog. We hope you like them.

My Senses

Primary two had a fantastic time on a trip to the science centre! We had been learning about our senses in science and we enjoyed carrying out practical activities during a “My Senses” workshop. We also had great fun exploring the science mall. Take a look at some photographs from our day.

Eco Day of Action 2017

Many thanks to everyone who took part in our Eco Day on Friday 9th June.  Whether you dressed up, made an Eco poster or donated some bedding plants… we couldn’t have done it without you!  Each class worked hard on a range of Eco-friendly activities throughout the day, as well as working together as a team to plant seeds and plants around our school environment.  We are looking forward to seeing all our blooms over the coming weeks and months.
