We have arrived!

Hi Everyone,

Just to let you know that we have survived our first challenge of making our beds!  Some of us have also got to try out skiing as well as the beach walk, where we got a little wet!  The wifi is very temperamental but we will keep trying to post pictures tonight.  Miss you all.  P7x. Sharing Our Learning in P6 – The Titanic

Primary 6 had a fantastic time sharing their learning about the Titanic with their parents/carers this morning. All our guests were issued with their boarding pass as they entered the hall. Each boarding pass contained the name and travel class of one of the passengers who boarded the Titanic for the maiden journey from Britain to New York. At the end of the morning, our visitors got to find out if  the person on their boarding pass survived or perished in the Titanic disaster.

The children then ran a series of workshops for their parents/carers about the Titanic. Each group of pupils took ownership of their learning, planning, writing, organising and delivering their workshop to all of their visitors – an amazing achievement.

We hope our visitors enjoyed their Titanic experience and found it as enjoyable as we did.

World War Two Workshop

On October 10th, Primary 7 embarked on a journey through time. We visited Summerlee to learn about life on the Homefront during World War II. Using discussion, objects, documents, photographs and posters we explored the themes of evacuation, rationing, air raids and propaganda. A great day was had by all!

We went to a workshop where we got to dress up as WW2 characters. We had to crack codes, then go into the museum and find a suitcase. These had four different categories of artefacts in them. It was great! -Chloe

We got to go to the park for a little while after lunch and there was a barge in the canal there. We got to go inside and listen to speakers telling us information. It was amazing! -Lewis

We went on a tour of the mine where people had to work hard to get money. It was really fun, but it was also scary as well because it was so dark. I would NOT like to work there! -Alex

I liked dressing up in old-fashioned clothes. It was really funny and I loved how we had to go around wearing them! We had them on for quite a while. -Max

We went to cottages to see lots of different eras. When we went down the mines we saw statues showing us how men worked there. -Louis

My favourite part was the old fashioned sweet shop and the mine. The mine was really dark. -Sinead

We learned about everyday items used during WW2. For example, there was a metal guard for lights, which you would cover headlights on cars so that enemy planes could not see them! We all had a great time dressing up in WW2 era clothing. -Aimie

Maths Week

October 12, 2017 by Miss Davidson | 0 comments

Primary 5/4 all had a fun filled week playing lots of different maths games. We all challenged ourselves playing SumDog and worked as a team to cross the river during our multiplication Stepping Stones game. We also played board games to help increase our mental addition and subtraction ability and our recall of our table facts.

Author Event – Meg McLaren

Primary 2 and Primary 3/2 attended an author’s event at the library today. They had the opportunity to hear Meg McLaren read both of her picture books, Life is Magic and Pigeon P.I. It was very exciting for the children and Meg showed them how to draw Houdini the rabbit. Her assistant, Jon, entertained the children by participating in the reading of the book and became a magician himself. The children magically gave him a bunny tail!!
