Build a Bridge

November 20, 2017 by Miss Davidson | 0 comments

Primary 5 all had a fabulous time at the Build a Bridge Project. The children worked in two teams to build a bridge. Everyone in the group took on a different job, we had safety managers, site managers and much more. Not only did we successfully manage to complete the build we did so while learning lots about different types of bridges and different projects that engineers get the opportunity to work on during their working life all over the World. We also had the chance to learn more about money and how engineers make money through their job and the outgoings of big companies like this one. Everyone had a fabulous time and the bridge really was spectacular P5 and safe, Miss Davidson had to test it first. Well Done P5 fabulous teamwork, communication and determination!

RSNO Heroes and Villains School Workshop

On Wednesday 25th October Primary 4/3 were extremely excited to have a very special visit from John, a tuba and euphonium player in the RSNO.  As part of our music we were learning all about the orchestra, the different sections – brass, woodwind, strings and percussion.  In class we have been learning about different composers from both the past and present who composed well known pieces of music that are still very popular today.  When John came into the class he brought his instruments and the children learned all about how to play them as well as having the opportunity to hear him play.  The children also got to play the xylophones and learn about what a fanfare was and create their own in small groups. The time flew by so quickly but at the end of the visit there was an opportunity for the children to ask John questions that they had created themselves.  As a finale to the ‘Heroes and Villains’ topic the class attended an amazing live concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert hall on Tuesday 14th November – photos will be posted of this event in a further BLOG.

3D Shape

November 20, 2017 by Miss Davidson | 0 comments

In class Primary 5/4 have been investigating different 2D and 3D shapes. We have discussed the different properties of each shape and were we might see each shape in a real life context. Primary 4 worked hard to build their own 3D shapes from modelling clay and straws. Everyone had to think very carefully about how many vertices, edges and sides each shape had. Primary 4 also had to put their creative skills to the test when given the task to create a model using different 3D shapes in class. Everyone then had the chance to discuss with their group the shapes that they had used in their model and the properties of each and why certain shapes made for a better base than others. Primary 5 worked hard in pairs to identify different 3D nets of shapes. Once the nets had all been identified in pairs, P5 worked hard and as part of a team to construct their own 3D shape from a net. Fantastic job everyone!

Meccanoid Robot Visit

A couple of weeks ago a very special robot called Meccanoid came into our class to show what he can do.  He is constructed out of meccano and can talk to you, dance, tell stories, tell bad jokes, do Kung FU, yoga and much more. It was lots of fun.  Here are some of the photos from his visit.

African Safari Drama

As part of the class drama in term 1 we linked it to the class topic of African Safari and one of the favourite activities we did was to create a short Safari story where the children in groups had to work together and decide on the story line, any speech, movement, costumes and props.  The activity took a few weeks finishing by each group having their stories filmed on IPad and an opportunity for them to watch themselves with a movie premiere with homemade popcorn in class and special guest Mrs Jeffreys came along to watch too.  Here are some of the photos taken.

African Safari Creations

Primary 4/3 have really enjoyed learning all about Africa and Safaris. As part of a homework challenge they were given a variety of options for their creations including :
*An African Mask

*An African Tribal Shield/spear

*An African Safari animal model

*An African Hut model

The children made amazing models and stood up in front of the class to share some information on how they were made, as well as answering some questions from the eager audience of fellow class members.  Here are just some of the photos of the fantastic creations.

Our Marvellous Moon Buggies

November 20, 2017 by Miss Davidson | 0 comments

As part of our class topic we were set the task of creating our very own replica Moon Buggy, after learning about Neil Armstrong, the first man on the Moon. We discovered that different technology has helped people over time to collect more information about the Moon and Space. We have started to show and talk about our designs to the rest of the class and we are loving hearing about how our classmates have used different materials to create their own replica. Some ideas have been very creative but have also demonstrated a great understanding of a Moon Buggy, what it does and how it works. We cannot wait to hear from everybody else. Well Done P5/4!

Charles Rennie Macintosh

Our topic this term in P3M is Children from Another Land. This topic gives us the opportunity to compare and contrast children’s lives in Scotland to children from another country. We voted as a class on the country to explore. We picked Spain. To link with our topic, our artwork this term shall explore a Scottish artist and a Spanish Artist.

We have explored the style of the famous Scottish designer Charles Rennie Macintosh. Have a look at our rose paintings in the Macintosh style. We used a wax resist technique to create them.

Egyptians topic in P3M

P3M have been learning about Ancient Egypt in our topic. We have had lots of opportunities to be creative throughout the topic. Through purposeful play we created Scarab Beetle Amulets using clay. We enjoyed experimenting with the clay to create our Amulets. We made Pharoah necklaces through our purposeful play sessions. We are modelling our jewellery in our pictures. We also had a creative homework challenge to design an Ancient Egyptian Sarcophagus. Some of our models are shown in our pictures.

Primary 1 had a visit from our Local Fire Service who let us go inside their Fire Engine, put on their protective hats, set off the siren and use the fire hose! It was great fun especially when Miss Kennedy got soaked by one of the children using the hose!!
