Friday Night Fever!

We danced, we sang, we laughed and we made our teachers proud!  Thank you to our brilliant PTA for an amazing disco. A special mention goes to our P7 pupils who made the most of every single minute of their last disco at Stepps Primary.

P3/2 Smoothie Making

As part of our Health and Wellbeing learning in P2/3, we have been focusing on ‘Ingredients for Health’. We looked at seasonal foods and made a recipe for summer smoothies. Even though it wasn’t summer we discussed how supermarkets get fruit and veg from other countries so we can still enjoy the taste. We used our safe cutting techniques and thought about hygiene.

The smoothies were fantastic. Well done P2/3!

P1 Apple Tasting

In P1M, P1K and P1B we were learning all about fruits and vegetables. We learned to eat 5-10 portions a day of a rainbow selection for all the vitamins that our bodies need and we focused our learning on apples.  We did a taste test to try a range of varieties. Did you know there’s over 100 different varieties! We voted for our favourite. Some were sweet some were sour.

Great work Primary 1!

Safety for Health P3/4

In Health and Wellbeing we have been looking at safety in health. We learned all about hygiene and that different foods can be harmful if not stored correctly. We looked at different methods of preserving fresh foods and then used our knowledge on hygiene to make a biscuit dough. We could not make the dough, cook it and decorate it in one lesson so we froze the biscuit dough to stop any harmful bacteria forming. We also looked at common food allergies and decided to make our biscuits egg free but they were still very tasty.

After baking, we got to decorate our biscuits. Don’t they look yummy!

Great work P3/4!

P7 Indian Spice Tasting

During Health and Wellbeing lessons with Miss Taylor, P7R and P7S have been learning all about world food cultures with a focus on India. To get an understanding of the different flavours in traditional Indian cooking, we tried a few of the most commonly used spices.

It was interesting to try different flavours. Some were more favoured than others!

Family Learning Survey

Thank you to everyone who completed our online Family Learning survey during March. A total of sixty-six questionnaires were completed. We were delighted with the positive feedback we received, and with all the great suggestions made to help develop our Family Learning approaches in the future. We have already started planning to implement some of these suggestions from August 2018, including:

  • The introduction of ‘Our Learning Stepps’ journals which will be sent home termly for parents to view and comment on. These journals will contain samples of your child’s work across a number of curricular areas as well as their personal targets for every term.
  • Further information/help sheets for parents/carers on key Literacy & Numeracy concepts.
  • Monthly ‘Drop In’ Curriculum Surgeries for parents/carers where staff can explain how specific aspects of Literacy & Numeracy are taught.

We will continue to explore some of the other suggestions made, and where feasible, plan their implementation.

A full copy of the survey results can be found by visiting the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-NX7963QVL/

Sports Relief

P1M managed to figure out a secret message from Sport Relief today. We worked together to find the answer to 17 clues, for example ‘the 22nd letter of the alphabet’ which Martha figured out was ‘v’. Have a look below to see how proud we were at figuring out the message.

Primary 4’s Viking Curriculum Showcase

I would like to start by thanking all of our guests for attending our Showcase this morning I know that the pupils really enjoyed “teaching” the adults that attended.

This term our topic has been The Vikings and the pupils in Primary 4S have really enjoyed learning lots of facts about the Vikings. They decided that they would do their Showcase on this topic. The children took responsibility for planning, organising and delivering this showcase to some of their family members. The children had to work cooperatively in small groups to plan each activity. There were  times where they had to compromise with each other and they learned that they had to negotiate with others as they might not all have the same opinion on what they should do. At times some friendships were tested and others developed.

They decided on the activities that they wanted to do and had to prepare their own resources. Being organised was vital and some of the groups were excellent at this.

During the delivery of their activities it was amazing to see the confidence of the children improve as they worked and communicated with different groups of adults.

As the class teacher I was so proud of all of the children today. Well done Primary 4S.
