As this is Brake Road Safety Week, our two JRSOs delivered very interesting assemblies to P1-3 and P4-7 today. They also had the help of some very enthusiastic and confident performers! Well done to everyone who took part!
As part of their presentations, the JRSOs made a video to show how long it takes for a car to stop if it is travelling at 20 mph and 30mph – a staggering 12 metres and 23 metres respectfully!
During the P1-3 assembly, the JRSOs got their volunteers to do some role play to show how to cross the road safely. They also found out the difference between a pelican and a puffin crossing. To encourage children to think about what they are wearing when they are out and about in the dark, they also had two models show suitable and unsuitable clothing. Finally, they used eggs to demonstrate what can happen to your skull if you have a bike accident and you are not wearing a helmet!
In addition to learning about all of these things, the P4-7 children also watched a sketch that highlighted some of the potential distractions a driver may face when they are out driving with their family e.g passengers arguing, loud music and answering the phone while driving. We hope that all of the children will use what they learned today to keep themselves and their families safe.
