Today some of the children planted sunflower seeds and are learning about the changes that happen during Spring. The children will take care of the sunflowers over the next few weeks by watering them.

It was such a lovely morning that we decided to go to Bluebell park with a picnic snack. We looked and listened for signs of Spring and heard birds singing , saw nests in the trees and some little buds . We all enjoyed being energetic too!

It is Fairtrade Fortnight and we did some interesting research to find out what Fairtrade means. We realised that some of our favourite foods like bananas, chocolate and blueberries, can all be Fairtrade and that this means the farmers who have grown these will get a better price for their crop. We then baked muffins and made hot chocolate which we really enjoyed having for snack!

Congratulations to the boys and girls who have been participating in the Three Reads approach. Over the last two months they have listened to 6 stories, and have been encouraged to take part in conversations during each read. The children have become familiar with the role of the author and illustrator, the blurb, the title, the big problem and events and characters. The children have been encouraged to think about how the characters are feeling and why, as well as predict events in the story. The children have worked extremely hard and were developing listening and thinking skills throughout. Sadly, this session has come to an end and the children received a certificate for their efforts. Well done.
Group three will begin their reads next week and names of the children taking part can be located on the Three Reads display next to the nursery door.

This week the children have been exploring factual books to find out interesting information about Spring and animals. By looking at a range of books and listening to information we found out that there are four seasons, Jaguars live in America and frogs like to eat dragonflies and grasshoppers.

Today the children enjoyed playing musical instruments along to songs and rhymes. We chose instruments to play along to I hear thunder, using a large drum, bells, flute, tambour and rain maker.
