Update from Primary 4 and Mrs McAdams

Primary 4 have settled into the new school year well, enjoying lots of new learning experiences and meeting new friends ! We continue to learn across the curriculum and in particular, new learning in our Literacy Modelling has given us opportunities for cross curricular studies. This term we have learned about literacy strategies, for example, we having been learning how to create a visualiser, discuss characters and find tricky words and phrases to enhance our understanding of the story.  In class and group reading sessions, we practice reading skills concentrating on pace, volume, expression and fluency. Using sequencing tasks, we learned to put the text into the correct order so it made sense just as the author wrote the text. We have also discussed inference and are learning how to answer questions in full sentences to show our understanding of the story.  The owl also gave us the opportunity to name and design our own version of the character ‘Plop’  in Art lessons, where we created owl pictures which are now proudly displayed on classroom walls.

Update from Mrs Ferns and Primary 3F

Primary 3F have settled well into their new classroom and new routines. We have been working hard and we have been enjoying the learning experiences so far this term.

Our Interdisciplinary Learning topic this term is Katie Morag Delivers the Mail. The children are really enjoying learning about the differences between living on an island (Isle of Coll), living in a town (Motherwell) and living in a city (Glasgow). The children have really enjoyed the Art and Design work which we have completed so far. The class worked together to paint a landscape picture of the Isle of Struay and a large collage picture of Katie Morag. During Purposeful Play the children have enjoyed playing in the Post Office corner, building homes and the post office and using Happy Land to build villages using the Katie Morag stories as their stimulus.

We are looking forward to the rest of the term. Thank you for your continued support.

Update from Primary 5

Primary 5 have been having lots of fun since starting back in August and have settled in well to their new class.

We have also been privileged enough to have had a BEd student in working with us and she made wonderful, multi-coloured parrots with the children as part of our interdisciplinary theme. We also took a stroll down to Baron’s Haugh with Primary 6/5 to compare the similarities and differences between a typical forest in this country with a rainforest.

In maths we have been focusing on place value and addition/subtraction and we are enjoying the variety of active and written tasks. We are also thoroughly enjoying our modelling block novel, ‘The Queen’s Nose’, and we have been very enthusiastic to see what happens next.
