An Update from Primary 4

Children have enjoyed some great learning experiences so far in Term 3. We have been experiencing outdoor learning where the whole school enjoyed an adventure trail walk to Baron’s Haugh on Thursday 2nd February. Children found a variety of interesting plants, trees and shrubs, noting the change of colours in the foliage as we approach the season of spring. They even built a camouflage shelter with Mrs Booth and Mrs Leonard!

The class have been enjoying working with the students from Motherwell College on a Tuesday morning, learning new fitness and stamina skills and working in teams as part of the school’s PE programme. Children have been making healthy fruit salads on Wednesday afternoons with Mrs Young in our cookery class.

Primary 4 have been learning about Robert Burns, his poetry and songs. In another topical theme, Primary 4 have been learning about the Chinese New Year, while creating some colourful art and craft activities to celebrate this festival.

Primary 3F Term 3

This term our interdisciplinary learning topic is Little Lighthouse. We have been enjoying the learning experiences and purposeful play activities so far. Painting the lighthouse scene was great fun and we were able to work together as a whole class to complete it. We have been collecting kitchen rolls so we can use them to create our own 3D lighthouse. We used card for the sea and painted it blue, the kitchen roll has been painted white and red for the lighthouse and we are adding cotton wool to create the rocks which the lighthouse stands on. The children have been enjoying learning about and investigating; creating sound waves, electrical circuits and we will be learning about programming later in the term. Mrs Young has been working with us in the kitchen to make food from The Lighthouse Keeper stories.

As we are preparing for our First Reconciliation this term and I would ask that you keep us in your prayers. I am delighted that the children have been working hard at home on their Family Workbooks. The children have been enthusiastic when reading and learning about the Bible stories. They have enjoyed that activities which they have completed in class; in particular the fingerprint and helping hands activities.

I hope you enjoy looking at our photographs below and keep an eye on Twitter for our weekly tweets.

Hello from P6/5

I can’t believe we are into February already!

Last term was very busy indeed with Christmas shows and parties. We had fun learning a medley of  favourites as well as a Spanish song to sing as this fitted in with our topic learning about Christmas traditions around the world. We learned about the tradition of putting up trees, how to say Merry Christmas in other languages and the huge variety of foods eaten on Christmas Day. Did you know the Japanese go to KFC for their Christmas dinner?

This term P6  have started preparing for the next step in their faith journey, Confirmation. This is a very important time for the children, their families and the parish and it was lovely to get the chance to explain what is happening at the meeting on Wednesday.

Please remember the children in your prayers.
