This term Primary 6 have been learning all about Europe as their IDL Topic. We chose this topic as we were preparing to take part in North Lanarkshire’s Euroquiz back in January. As part of the preparation for the quiz the pupils undertook a lot of personal research and this really inspired them to further develop their knowledge.
We have covered many aspects of Europe this term, starting with the geography of Europe and the European Union Member States. The pupils also learned about the European Parliament and how to organise themselves for a debate. We have discussed various european landmarks and the pupils are currently undertaking a Homework Project to create a model of a landmark which is of interest to them.
As well as this the pupils were enthusiastic to create some eye-catching art work so we decided to work with our partners to research the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. After learning about Picasso the pupils were inspired to create their own abstract portraits – which they did using oil pastels and strong colours. Here are some of our completed masterpieces.
