P4’s Workshop Week

Last week we were treated to not one, but two super Workshops. First of all, we learned all about the amazing work of the SSPCA and what we can do to help animals that are in trouble…

After that, we had some lovely ladies from Santander Bank in our classroom teaching us all about money. We learned how to budget by selecting some items for our imaginary bedroom. We all wanted a TV but came to realise that our budgets wouldn’t allow it!

Busy Bees in Primary 1!

As part of the year of Mercy, we have been looking at the story of The Lost Sheep. We know that the message God is sending us from this story is that even if we wander away from him, he will always love us. Here we are making some little sheep. First we made the body using cotton wool then we stuck on legs and our own faces! Check out our wall display.

As part of our topic “My School” we made a graph recording how we get to school. It had been a while since we made a graph but we remembered that a graph gives us information. After making the graph we chose a feelings face to show how successful we thought we were!

During literacy time we have been making sentences. We find using “roll a sentence” helps us. Here we are below. We have to remember capital letters and full stops because the dice don’t give us them!

More from Pr7

In Spanish we have been learning all about clothes. We can label all our clothing in Spanish and can talk about colours and clothes we like.

Me gusta Zapatos- I like shoes!!!!!!

In art we have started looking at landscapes. We are working very hard trying to create perspective, light and shade, texture and realism. Eventually we will create a World War II landscape!

A catch up with pr7

Primary six and seven were visited by the childline team who told them all about how to cope with worries and what treatment is ok and not ok.

Santander also visited the children to teach them all about money and how to budget. Great advice!

The SSPCA also visited our school and told us all about their organisation, how they help animals and they were able to answer our many questions about pets! We even finished with a great wee game about all the different animals.

Catch Up With P2/3

This week in Primary 2/3 we have been busy learning about the story of The Rainbow Fish. We became familiar with the story and characters and explored one of the important messages behind the story; the importance of sharing.

We used card templates, lollipop sticks and lots of sparkly bits to create our own Rainbow Fish stick puppets.

We then used our puppets in drama to re-enact parts of the story. We added our own dialogue and some of the class were confident enough to perform to the rest of the class.

As well as thinking about the characters and story, we did some research on the setting of the book. We looked at videos and picures of some famous coral reefs and decided to make our own masterpieces. We used modelling clay to design our own coral reef then filled them carefully with water.

Mrs Maclean was so proud of our hard work that she decided to display it for all to see. We definitely are a talented bunch!

Another busy week in primary 5/6

Once again primary 5/6 have been super busy this week.

On Monday we had a very interesting visit from the SSPCA where we learned lots about the important work that they do in keeping animals safe from harm. Additionally we had the opportunity to take part in some great activities learning all about the different types of animals which the SSPCA help and about we can do to help protect them too. It was very informative and lots of fun!

Wednesday brought some more special visitors to our class, this time from Santander. Again this was great fun and a fantastic learning experience for all of us.

Our fantastic visitors explaining the first task.

We learned about the various different ways that we can earn or get money and completed some group mind maps showing these.

We then thought up all the different ways that we could spend money. We had loads of ideas, everything from sweets to paying off debt. Miss Brennan said we were ‘fantastic’.

We designed our perfect bedroom and learned how and why to budget. Some of us found it difficult to part with our dream TV, but we all managed eventually.

After the tricky budgeting task, we talked about the importance of saving some money and sticking to our budgets. We got to ask our visitors lots of questions about their jobs and everybody learned something new.

Today, we had another busy day. We used our fantastic topic knowledge and created fact file pages called, ‘All About Space’ in the morning. After an exhausting P.E session in the afternoon, we used our learning from the past couple of weeks, practised the recovery position and carried out some peer assessment on our techniques. We were very successful and have worked so hard this week. We’re looking forward to celebrating winning last week’s ‘Cool Class Cup’ tomorrow too. What an awesome week.
