Jack and the beanstalk Primary 1/2

This week we were busy learning how to draw arrays in maths to work out multiplication and division problems. We are quite good at it now!

Also in literacy we are all reading very tricky books and are using the information from our books to made a fact file in the Digital Learning suite.

ICT also helped the rubies group find out more about teeth as they worked on their literacy tasks.

Here are some of the independent literacy tasks by P1 this week. Amazing writing!

We are also exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk as part of our new topic on Living Things.

We planted our own beans on Friday . Each group planted a different type of bean and we will see which type reaches the top first.

In RE we got our altar ready for next week for the devotion to Mary. We also did some more work on baptism and made our own baptismal candles.

P 2/3 Pirates!

This week we have embraced our Pirate theme as we learned about co-ordinate grids. We used our new skills to create our own treasure maps and chose a location for our buried treasure.

Two of our members even used their skills in a creative way to practise this week’s spelling words.

Finally, this afternoon we split into groups to create our own percussion orchestra. We had great fun exploring the sounds that can be made with our instruments and did a fantastic job of keeping the beat.

Primary 5 hard at work!

This week Primary 5 have been working very hard in class.

The children were using their mapping skills to locate the countries with the UK.

As part of our treat for the Cool Class Cup we had fun on the Wii. Thanks Mr Young!

Cafe Combo Grand Opening

Today, after all of our hard work, we finally opened Cafe Combo to some very special members of our local community.

We worked our socks off in the morning, preparing all the food and making everything just perfect for our special guests (have a look on Twitter for some photos).

Here we are in action as we welcomed The Jubilee Group, the St. Vincent de Paul group, the Eucharistic Ministers and the Church Readers…

We looked after our guests extremely well and we were complimented many times over on our exceptional manners and hard work. And the Strawberry Tarts went down a storm too!

We were able to find out about the work that our special visitors do for our local community and we treated them to a tour of the school including our beautiful oratory.

I think we will all sleep well tonight after a very successful day. Well done P4! You should be very, very proud of yourselves.

A big thanks to our helpers today – Mrs Ruddy, Mrs Morris and Katie’s mum!

Cafe Combo…coming soon!

Our teams successfully completed all of their tasks today in preparation for the opening of Cafe Combo tomorrow…

We carried out a review of our business planning too. We wanted to make sure that we had achieved our targets and that our final products were fit for purpose…

Our review highlighted a small problem in one of our teams. At first, there was panic…

The arrow is pointing the wrong way!!

The arrow is pointing the wrong way!!

But then, after careful thinking and a little bit of improvisation…

Phew!! Problem solved.

Phew!! Problem solved.

We learned that there’s always a way to fix a problem if we stay calm and positive. We are now almost ready for our first customers tomorrow…

We can’t wait!

It’s Good to be Back!

Primary 1 are glad to be back in school and what a busy and exciting week we have had! On Wednesday we were very lucky to visit the Science Centre as part of our previous topics. We did a workshop on the night sky and a journey through our bodies. The sun was shining and our behaviour was outstanding! Check out the Twitter page for some exciting pictures!

Our new topic this term is The Wonders of Nature. To kick start our topic we have planted some sunflower seeds and are patiently waiting for them to bloom!

Progress of our sunflowers will be posted in the coming weeks!

Primary 4 brings you…Cafe Combo!

As part of First Communion preparation, we decided that we should give something back to the groups in our local community. We know that there are a number of groups in our community that selflessly give up their time to help us. So we came up with our ‘Community Cafe’ idea!

For the next two weeks, we’re inviting members of our local community into St. Bartholomew’s for tea, coffee, sandwiches, cakes and a good old natter with Primary 4. We’ll be doing all the work while our customers put their feet up and enjoy some delicious food!

Our preparations started today and we were very lucky to welcome another special visitor into our classroom…

Mrs Davidson has just set up her very own business called Spindl. She and her partner help other businesses to get better at what they do. She talked to us today about the things that we will need to think about when we’re setting up our community cafe. We really impressed Mrs Davidson with our enthusiasm…

First of all, our Advertising Team brainstormed some names for our cafe. Then they asked the other teams for their opinion. We decided on ‘Cafe Combo’! Then it was over to the other teams to get started with their tasks. We made super progress today and really impressed Mrs Davidson with our enthusiasm and initiative. We welcome our first customers to Cafe Combo next Thursday 28th May! A big thanks to Mrs Davidson for helping us to get started.

We also managed to finish our First Communion banners this week. Here they are displayed in our school…

Drawing faces in pr7

Today we started to look at how to draw faces. The children had to be very careful where to place each part of the face and tried to make realistic noses and lips.

Exploring materials at the Burrell Collection

We have had a great start to our last term with a very interesting visit to the Burrell Collection at Pollock Park.

This trip linked in with all of the work we did last term in science when we explored “materials”.  We were able to share our knowledge with our guide Grant and tell him everything we knew about different materials- he was very impressed!

We have brought our clay pots back to school and when they are dry we will paint them and bring them home.
