In PE this week, we travelled around different stations and explored our hockey skills. We had to dribble the ball, pass the ball, stop the ball and shoot a goal. We are all getting quite skilled at hockey.

As you can see, we spent time this week exploring the last days of Jesus’ life. We made Easter cards for our families and primary 1 made stained glass crosses for our windows. Also on Thursday we had a class “last supper” as we learned about the time when Jesus had his last meal with his special friends.

Thursday was also our science day. We explored where materials come from. We found out all about wool, steel and paper. We even made our own paper from shredded paper from the school office.

We welcomed our families along to our class assembly last Friday afternoon. After making some delicious empire biscuits (you can see our efforts on Twitter!) and getting into our costumes, we wowed our audience with our trip back in time to a Victorian classroom. Each and every one of us did an outstanding job of remembering our lines, projecting our voices and keeping our audience engaged. Here are some pictures of our assembly…

While Friday was a great day with lots of exciting things happening, it was a sad day too as we said ‘Goodbye’ to Miss Dunbar who’s been working with us since December. We’re going to miss her but we’re sure we’ll see her again sometime in the near future. Good luck Miss Dunbar from Primary 4!!!

Yesterday we had another great science day. This time we were exploring materials and what they are like and how they are used.

The first challenge we had was a cooperative group challenge …. Design and  make a shelter for a little creature. We all worked together to complete this task….

Then we watched a short film about he beaver and how it uses different materials to build a shelter. In our writing task we all wrote about this and explained why the beaver uses wood, leaves and mud to make a lodge.

Afterwards, we all used different materials to design and make a raft. We worked in trios for this.

In the afternoon we worked with a partner to make a house with a difference! The materials we used were all wrong! We used feathers for the roof , tissue for the walls, tiles for the windows…. Would you like to live in a house like this???

At the end of the day we tested our group knowledge with a matching task…

Today we listened to the gospel story for Sunday. Then we made palm to welcome Jesus into Jerusalem.

Last week in Primary 5/6, we had some very special visitors from Miss Duffy’s class in Primary 1.

We went to the art auction together and had a wander round. Everything was very impressive and the children thought that the paintings were ‘very beautiful and colourful’. Some of us bought paintings, others reserved them until Monday when we were able to pay for them. We had a lovely time.
When we had finished, we returned to Primary 5/6’s classroom and the fantastic Primary 1s helped us to make some stain glass windows. We got a little sticky, but it was worth it because we created some excellent stain glass windows.

After that, we worked together to write some super stories. The Primary 1 pupils did a wonderful job helping the older boys and girls to remember to put capital letters and full stops in each sentence, while Primary 5/6 supported the younger pupils with spelling. Our stories were out of this world and some of us even got to share them with Miss Brennan and the rest of the class.

Since then Primary 5/6 have been very busy with digital learning. We’ve been learning about computer programs and learned that coding is giving a computer a set of step by step instructions to tell the computer what to do. Coding can be tricky, because the instructions have to be very specific and clear. If you make even one wrong command, the program could stop working! So we took the opportunity to practise our coding and problem solving skills in teams of three using an app called ‘lightbot’. It was a lot of fun and we deepened our knowledge of coding in the process. Miss Brennan was very impressed by our hard work and by how good we got!

On Tuesday this week some of our pupils joined a new Digital Learning club. We discussed and made notes of the areas that we want to learn more about and set up accounts on Scratch which will help us to develop our skills and understanding of coding and programming using the scratch language. We are very excited to do a little more on it next week!

Finally, we have been learning about the stations of the cross in R.E during Lent, and as part of our Pope Francis Faith Award journey, we are going to help out during the Holy Week morning services by sharing and presenting our learning. We’ve been busy bees preparing for it and are looking forward to this exciting and important opportunity.
