Homework Projects!

Mrs McLean and Mr Walsh were super impressed by the time and effort given over to homework projects in P6!

The task was to carry out research around the Scottish Wars of Independence and present our project to the rest of the class. We had to focus on our speech, eye contact and body language. Each and every one of us worked through our nerves to deliver super presentations. Here are some pics…

Not only were we super presenters but we were also an excellent support to our peers as an audience. We listened and commented with respect and enthusiasm. We had the opportunity to celebrate our success with a wee treat and tour around all of the projects…

Great work P6. Well done!

WOW! POW! P4!

This week in primary four we have been learning all about onomatopoeia and how to use it. We did a variety of activities to find different examples of onomatopoeia in writing and within poems. We especially enjoyed looking through the poem ‘The Washing Machine’ where there were lots of examples and some made up!

image image image

We then had the opportunity to make up our own examples of onomatopoeia and share them with our partners. This was a fun activity and we cannot wait to practice more!

Also in class we have been logging onto our Glow accounts to research different Victorian inventors. Logging onto glow we were able to go onto our class page and use the links that were suggested in our class conversation. This gave us a short cut to the websites! We will be using our glow accounts more often and will keep you updated on how we are getting on.

Great week for P6/7

We’ve had a very busy week in P6/7. It started off with a visit on Monday from Mr Young to see our learning in class. We were learning the features of a newspaper article and we wrote our own articles for our wall display.

In maths we were working on time work.

In art we used a mixture of paint and charcoal to create pictures of the Blitz in our topic WW2.

Our week at the Stem Zone!

Primary 2/3 were soo excited to visit the Stem zone :D!!

Firstly, we began working in our pairs or trios to look at what different materials were inside our box. We then began to organise our materials by size, shape and colour.

After this we began to create a lot of different models. Sometimes we worked individually to create a model and other times we worked together as a team.

The models we created were fantastic! Some of them had lots of different movements – they could, spin, roll and even sway side to side like a seesaw.

We really enjoyed our time at the Stem zone using our super skills to create lots of different models.

We can’t wait to go back!!

Primary 1 are amazing!

This week, we really enjoyed paired reading with primary 6, it was great to have the big children helping us with our reading skills and the new books are beautiful!

If if you pass by our classroom, you will see our wall display of the work we have done looking at old and new teddy bears. We are very proud of our skills.

In the Digital Learning zone this week, we worked on Glow, next week our teacher will have some new activities for us so we are looking forward to that.

Some of us were writing our own stories during literacy time this week using a word mat. Our teacher was sooooo impressed with us. We wrote these without any adult help at all. Amazing!

image image image image

You can also see how well we are doing when we are practicing our spelling.

image image image

On Thursday our teacher was thrilled when we knew all of these words!

image

We are also trying very hard to make our capital letters the correct size……we think we’ve got it.

Finally, this week we have been reading The great pet sale, and doing some money work from it. Here we are ordering the coins.

Summerlee visit and more.

You will all remember a few weeks ago we went to Summerlee to find out more about old toys and games. When we came back to school, we wrote all about it and created some dancing children….we loved dancing to the old music at our workshop!!!

Last week, we all brought in our favourite bears and spent time talking about them in class. We also wrote some facts about our bears then drew them with pastels.

Last week, we also spent some time playing with our friends at the play area outside our class.

Read all about it! Primary 4 have been busy working their socks off!

We have been busy in primary 4 catching up with the news and reading the news paper. Not only did we find out what was going on in the world, we worked in groups to highlight the features of newspaper to help us with our recount writing. Using highlighters we found all the main features that we needed to include in our own news report about Queen Victoria’s Coronation.

image image

This helped us a lot in our writing and we will be looking at more examples this week. Watch this space!

Maths Explorers

In numeracy we have been looking at formal methods of addition. We worked in pairs and used dienes blocks to work out sums actively.

image image  image image

This is was great fun and helpful to use. Now we write the formal method and are finding the sums easier to do.

image

In topic we have also been finding out more about old Victorian toys and what games children played with. We used a sorting activity to test our knowledge and will be inventing our own toy or game for our class project! We are excited to get our teeth into it!

Primary 1’s library wall display.

Here is the primary 1 wall display for the library. We read the book “The owl who was afraid of the dark” then we wrote a book review.  It is a great book to read. Our teacher also downloaded a link to our dojo site and we were able to watch and listen to the story at home! Fantastic. Then, afterwards at art time, we worked with a partner to create a collage owl using torn strips of paper. This was a tricky skill but working as a team helped us finish with fabulous results.

Primary 1 discuss their learning.

Each week, we like to talk about what we have learned and what we would like to know. We record this on our 3,2,1, poster on our smart board.

image

This helps our teacher plan our next set of learning experiences. Our teacher also asks our opinion….what helped us learn, what could she have done differently to help us with tricky work and we are always trying to think of ways to learn and achieve.

This week we also looked at our Learning Journey folders and shared what we had been leaning with our classmates. We also looked back at some work from August and we were surprised by how much we have learned.
