Busy in P.1/2!

Mrs McGuinness has been working with us to develop our cooking skills. We have been learning how to prepare food and how to stay clean and safe in the kitchen! We wish we had cooking every week!

During gym time we have been working on our jogging skills through different games and activities. We have been talking about how we feel before and after being active. Sweaty, warm, tired and a fast heart are some of the ways we described our feelings!

As it was world kindness day, we spoke it about why it was important to be kind to people and we each said something nice to someone in our class. We decided that even if you weren’t really friends with someone you can still say nice things to them. We all felt so good hearing how wonderful we all are and said thank you to God for all the kind people in our lives.

Here we are doing paired reading with our buddies to help us improve our reading skills!

To finish off our week, we visited Stirling Castle as part of our upcoming Scotland topic! We explored the castle, visited the grand hall where the king and queen would throw parties and dressed up as princesses, jesters, knights and more. We had great fun doing lots of exploring and even had some sleepy heads on the bus on the way back!

A busy week for Primary 7 entrepreneurs!

Primary 7 are taking part in the Micro-Tyco challenge. We have been very busy this week carefully planning and organising a variety of fundraising activities. We have investigated the roles involved in running a business and used our own ideas to advertise and promote our own business ideas.

We have worked really hard to generate a profit!

P2/3 on a treasure hunt!

Last week the primary 2/3’s had a very busy week last week. We did lots of learning and completed a maths treasure hunt in the class with the help of some of the primary 4 children. We had to work out take away sums in order to lead us to the clues to break the code. Have a look at some of the work that we did below! It was also crazy hair day!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

We also finished our class novel “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” this week and we did some drama based on the book. Each group acted out a still image from different scenes of the story. We learned and discussed acting techniques such as facial expression and acting without the use of props. It was lots of fun!

Photos to follow!

Monday 13th November

Today is the beginning of the Scottish Interfaith Week. It is an opportunity to follow the example set by our Holy Father Pope Francis to reach out to our neighbours and to recognise all people of faith as brothers and sisters. Recent events have shown how important this is for world peace. I would encourage you to pray this week so that people of faith might work together for peace.

“My wish is that the dialogue between us should help us to build bridges connecting all people, in such a way that everyone can see in the other not an enemy, not a rival, but a brother or sister to be welcomed and embraced”. ( Pope Francis, 22 March 2013)

It is both my intention and that of Mrs Gamson, from Townhead Primary, that St Bartholomew’s Primary and Townhead Primary will work together in the very near future, so that our community can be strengthened. Watch this space…

As part of the Developing the Young Workforce week, Gillian from Hoots Owls visited us with her beautiful birds and told us all about her job as a falconer. We even got a turn to handle two of her little owls called Merlin and Magic. It was a great experience for all of us!

We also pitched our Social Enterprise ideas to the Dragons Den! The winning idea was to raise money for St. Andrews hospice by having a cake and candy sale! Handy Hospice Helpers is our company name and our logo is a collage of our handprints. We are looking forward to getting our business up and running!

In maths we have been working on addition! It’s a new concept for primary 1 children and primary 2 children are building on their addition knowledge. P.2 children worked in pairs to create their own addition facts using spinners.

A busy primary 1!

We were learning all about symmetry, so we explored symmetry by creating blob paintings and folded them ove rto make a symmetrical butterfly! We displayed these on our maths wall beside our counting caterpillars.

This week, we started Paired Reading with our Primary 7 Buddies. First we read our little reading books, then we chose a lovely library book to read with our Buddies. It was great fun. We hope to do it again next week.

As part of our RE, we have been thanking God for Autumn. This wonderful book tells the story of autumn. We used it to create our own autumn poems, thinking about the wonderful autumn world given to us by God.

Also this week, we worked on our Social Enterprise Business. After coming up with lots of ideas for our company name, we voted  – it was a secret ballot.

The winning name was “DOGGY DELICIOUS”.  Watch out for more information coming soon.

Here we are practicing our adding skills – aren’t we very clever! Another busy but brilliant week in primary 1.

STEM Zone Fun

Primary 3 are having loads of fun in the STEM zone this week! Check some of the amazing models that we made. Some of them had moving parts and we had a great time racing them on the floor.
