Primary5/6 Superstars

In Primary 5/6 the children created some fantastic personal projects on our topic on Space. They presented them to the class through a 2 minute talk. Well done!

Today we celebrated World Book Day a week later! The children dressed up as their favourite book character. Our class winner was the scarecrow from the book Wizard of Oz.

Primary 1/2 have been learning how to play hockey during our recent P.E. lessons. We started by learning about different hockey equipment and what this equipment is used for. Next, we learned how to use a hockey stick to dribble with a small ball. Finally, we worked in small teams to demonstrate close control. We had a fantastic time!

Primary 4/5 News.

We have been very busy in primary 4/5 with lots of different things happening in our class over the past two weeks. Have a look at the different things we have been doing!

We really enjoyed making our own questionnaires and then visiting some other classrooms to ask children throughout the school a variety of questions.

During Art and Design we worked hard putting together the finishing touches to our Roman shields. These shields were used as great props by our soldiers for our class assembly.

This week we were able to enjoy some time in the STEM Zone where we worked individually, in pairs and small groups to create a variety of different models.

We created models of all different shapes and sizes using our imaginations. We even discussed with each other how we could adapt our models to make them better or develop them further.

Also this week we met a few different animals when the Zoolab visited our class. We even got the chance to hold or pet them. We saw some slimey African snails, a millipede, a transhaler and a python.

Finally, to finish off our week we discussed as a class the importance of Lent and shared our thoughts and feelings about what we could give during lent. Then we each wrote out our own Lenten promise and attached them to our class lantern which will be displayed with the other classes outside the oratory as St Bartholomew’s primary begin their Lenten journey together.

Primary 1 News.

Here we are looking at materials in science. We are making our own paper. Everyone tore up the paper from our paper bin into tiny pieces, then we  added them to a pot of warm water and mushed the paper up. It turned into pulp. We then made our own paper and we are going to use it as a painting canvas when it isn’t dry…..we will photograph our final results.

Zoo lab came to visit us this week. Some very interesting creatures were introduced to us… we loved it!

At library time, we read a book by one of our favourite authors,  Nick Sharratt. It was very, very funny and we were all giggling and laughing. We read it again it was so much fun. You might have seen our tweet about it, Nick Sharratt did and he sen5 us a reply! We loooove books. We are all still borrowing books from our class library and everyone has their favourites.

In science we have been exploring materials. We made clay bowls to see how the clay could be changed by using a force, we painted them and gave them to our mum for Valentine’s Day.

We also used a variety of materials to create a house. We thought they were brilliant, but would not keep the wind or rain out!

A night at the football!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Thanks to Joe Bradley and the Kano Foundation, we were recently able to take a trip to Celtic Park to see Celtic take on Hearts. It was a thrilling game and Celtic won 3-1. It was a really terrific night. We saw some great football, made new friends and sang and jumped about all night. It was so much fun! Have a look at our photographs!

Catching up with P4/5

We started off our week looking at our writing targets and carried out some self and peer assessment activities to check what targets we had achieved and set some new targets for next time!

We also enjoyed working in pairs or trios to test each other on this week’s new spelling rule. We asked our partner to spell the word and then write the word as we checked for any mistakes and gave them praise when they got it correct.

Finally, at the end of the week we enjoyed some reading for enjoyment as we visited our library, chose our own books, got comfy enjoying the sun shining through the windows and let our imaginations grow with all the fantastic books we were reading.

Primary 1 news.

This week we have been learning about using our skills and talents to help others. This is us doing God’s work on earth. We made a beautiful tree with our hand prints to show how we can use our hands to do God’s work.

Here are some of the book covers we designed at home for part of our January homework challenge. We talked about the books we have read and some people in our class would like to read them too.

At literacy time, we are learning to write a dictated sentence and to use our new phonemes. We are getting quite confident with this.

At paired reading time, we took part in the reading challenge with our buddies. We can look at our reading challenge sheet and try to find a particular book, like a book with a one word title or a book about space.

For science day this week, we looked at different materials and what they would be used for. We worked in a team to create a shelter that was warm, dry and safe. We used a variety of materials. Also we had to design a raft that would sail in our water tray. It had to be waterproof! We worked with a partner and made some interesting boats.

In ICT, we are learning to use WORD to type and change a sentence. In maths, we are learning to take away 2. This means 2 less. We can jump back on a number trakc to take away 2.

Primary 1 update on learning.

Here we are making and playing with our rainbow sticks. We made them when learning the colours in Spanish and Sign Language. We are also practicing our take away skills in many different ways – using spinners and creating our own take away stories, doing word problems on the ipads and using the number cards to practice taking away 1.

We love the play area, we like to make and be creative. this week we also made our own snow and we played with the oobleck which acts like a solid and a liquid.

In ICT, we learned more about everything being made of atoms by looking at pointillism. We created our own dotty pictures, practicing our click and drag skills too. You can also see our ice balloons where we explored freezing and melting and how we did a quiz to show how much we had learned.

In literacy time, we have lots of different activities going on in our quiet working class. We do some spelling and story tasks on the ipads, our favourite is Read Me because we get to listen to and read along with new books. We also play sound games and are learning to use a dictionary too. You can also see our Star Writers.

Teamworks the way to do it!

This week we enjoyed learning more about our topic for this term ‘The Romans’.

We became archaeologists as we started off exploring the classroom to see what different ancient artefacts we could find.

Next, we worked together with our team to piece together our artefacts and try to decide what we thought they could be. To help us with this we had some extra information in our mystery envelopes and we displayed excellent talking and listening skills in our teams to piece together the clues.

Finally the presenters from each group shared their groups findings with the whole class. As archaeologists we uncovered the equipment that would have been used by a Roman Soldier.

Also this week the P4 children were working hard thinking about love, care and celebrations in the church community and they enjoyed discussing this together and then making a flip book to share their thoughts about how Jesus is alive in their life together.

The P5 children were also working hard this week sharing their knowledge of the 7 sacraments and focused on the ‘Sacrament of Healing’ thinking about the different miracles Jesus performed and how the sacrament of healing is shown today.

Finally, we finished off our week by putting our digital technology skills to good use and accessed our Glow profiles to search, retrieve and share information about the Roman coin and Roman mosaics.

Keep an eye out on our blog for more fantastic work next week!! 😃🌟
