Planting and growing with Primary 1.

We have been learning about growing. We discovered that butterflies have a lifecycle. We all worked in cooperative groups to design symmetrical butterflies using a variety of materials.

Sunflowers also have a lifecycle. We looked at sunflowers and the painted our own. Our pots are decorated with pastels.

A week in P.1/2

We drew and coloured beautiful sunflowers using chalk as part of our New Life topic. We have them on the wall outside our classroom now and they look pretty good. We have also planted beans, sunflowers and cress seeds and we have been looking after them to help them grow. They are getting very tall.

The nursery children visited us again for more play and reading sessions. We had fun and are looking forward to them coming to school in August.

A week with Primary 1.

We had a great time at Summerlee museum this week. Everyone enjoyed both workshops. The first one was all about the past and the way gran used to live, the second one was all about shape and colour.

At lunchtime we had the chance to play in the play park, we had it all to ourselves and it was good fun.

Our art workshop was interesting and we looked at some huge paintings in the museum.

Also this week, we had some nursery visitors to our class, who came to play with us. They will be starting school this year, so it gave them the chance to see what it is like being in primary 1.

P.1/2 Catch Up

Here we are reading for enjoyment in the sunshine with our friends from P.2/3.

We had fun on our trip to Drumpellier Park. The park rangers took us pond dipping and a woodland walk. We found lots of little creatures in the pond and learned about the birds and animals living in the woods. Of course we hadn’t time to play in the park too!

The nursery children came to read and play with us to prepare themselves for coming to school. We had great fun.

Primary 1 news.

We all had a fabulous time at the Science Centre on Friday. It was a very busy day with lots of hands on activities for us to explore.

When we got back to school, we were pretty tired out with all of the learning and fun experiences. However, we had just enough energy to have some time in the play area with our friends.

Also this week, we have been developing our money skills up to 20p and can put out amounts to buy different things from the shop.

As it was so sunny today, we took our learning outside and planted beans, sunflower seeds and cress seeds as part of out topic work. It is important that we look after them now and you will probably see the plant pots in our play area outside our class when you come up for Stay and Read.

In RE, we learned that Jesus is the Good Shepherd and that he looks after each and every one of us. He knows us all and knows our needs and listens to our prayers. Everyone made a little sheep for or wall display to show that we are like Jesus’ flock of sheep.

“We are the champions, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!”

Wow! There were tense scenes at the P.4 end of term hockey tournament. Let me tell you all about it…

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been learning about hockey skills such as

  • how to show close control when dribbling
  • different ways in which you can pass the ball
  • how to shoot at a target
  • ways in which we can keep ourselves safe

Well, we had the opportunity to put these skills into practice during our tournament. Following a tense group stage, we had two play-offs to see what teams would contest the final.

In the final, neither team was able to find the upper hand. We therefore had to go to extra time. Following a dramatic finish, the two teams were still deadlocked. There was nothing for it but to have a penalty shoot-out…

The penalty shoot-out provided terrific finishes, athletic saves and agonising misses. Finally, the red team held their nerve and won the tournament. Well done everyone!

World War 2 topic in pr 6-7

We have just loved learning about World War 2 in primary 6/7. We have enjoyed reading about it and writing recounts of the main events of the war. This week we brought in our own models based on a part of the topic which we really enjoyed. We are so proud of our models! A big thank you to those who helped us make them!

A Look back with Pr6-7

What a term we have had! We have had a really busy and fun time in the past Month. we have seen sbow days, snow challenges, world book day and reading for enjoyment challenges .

In class we dressed up as favourite characters and enjoyed more reading for fun.

Many pupils have been taking full advantage of our after school clubs. The library club has been a huge success and the guitar club has been fantastic.

In PE we have been enjoying football with the football coaches from Celtic Football Club. We have also been learning all about the vital organs and what food and drink is essential for a healthy lifestyle. As a result we have given ourselves a fruit challenge. Children who bring a fruit snack to school instead of sweets or chocolate receive extra points. We are also trying to drink more water and less fizzy drinks.

Also in PE we have been learning about hockey and we surprised ourselves with our skills in defending and scoring! We are very proud of ourselves.

In maths we have been learning lots of new concepts including division, area, percentages and decimals! What a busy bunch we have been!

Primary 1 Update- STEM, IDL and more.

Look at the old bears we have drawn with pastels, they show how soft some bears can be. We are learning about old toys and how they are different from the toys we play with today.

Here is the winning Easter basket for our class. You can see more on Dojo.

This week, in primary 1, we visited the STEM zone. We designed and created all week. We worked on our own, with a partner and in teams and helped with each other’s designs. Here are some of our designs.
