Primary 1 update.

Today, we went to the Riverside Museum. While we were there, we did a workshop all about, “People who help us!”

Here are a few pictures to let you see what we were doing all day.

We chose to be fire fighters, paramedics, police officers or lollipop people today at the museum.

Everyone got dressed up.

First of all we found the police car and explored the job of the police person.

We worked well as a team to come off the area.

Next we found the fire engine. It was an old one, we looked at all the different parts of it and used the hose to put out a fire!

Then we found the ambulance and used all of the paramedics equipment to bandage up the teacher!

Here we are exploring the toucan crossing. It has special devices so that people who cannot see or hear still know when to cross.

We even had to
I’m working to explore the toys in the education room.

Some of us coloured some people who help us pictures.

We even had time to go on to the tall ship and see what life was like for a sailor.

Look at this helpful sailor, scrubbing the deck.

Sailors hard at work today n the tall ship.

Pop Art in Primary 2

We’ve been studying the work of Roy Lichtenstein in class. He was a famous Pop Artist who used bright colours, stripes and dots to create his work.

Inspired by him, we decided to create some Lichtenstein Sunrises. First, we coloured in the land and sun using strong green and yellow paint. After that, we used dots and lines to create the effect of a rippling sky.

What a talented class!

Primary Five Update

A very busy week in Primary 5!

P5 were very lucky this week. We got a special visit from headteacher, Mrs Donaldson! She had heard some fabulous things about this class’ work with Number Talks! She was very impressed indeed with all of our hard work! Well done P5!

We also had an amazing time for our first week at swimming! The boys and girls loved getting the opportunity to visit the Time Capsule to improve our swimming skills.

Eva said “While the first group were still getting changed, the second group got to watch a girl ice skating and we all cheered for her!”

Sophie M said “It was really good! We got to do a little assessment to test our swimming ability!”

Gracie “I really enjoyed playing chicken nugget, duck or hero!”

We also had the fabulous opportunity to show off our amazing Spanish skills to Mrs Bolland. She visited us on Wednesday afternoon to see how hard we are all working! She was super impressed!

Maddison said “We were learning all about the Spanish colours and we played Spanish bingo!”

Molly said “Mrs Bolland was very very impressed and we learned that she used to teach Spanish too!”

Very soon we will be doing a spot of Spanish themed cooking. Keep your eyes peeled for an update!

Time for fun in P.2!

This week in class, we’ve been learning about how we can time how long it takes us to do something. We usually measure time by using words like ‘seconds’ or ‘minutes’.

On Wednesday, we used the timer functions on the iPads to measure how long it took us to

– do twenty star jumps
– write our name ten times
– walk a lap of the playground

It took us just over 5 minutes and 34 seconds to complete our lap, although some people said that we would have walked faster if Mr Fowler was not holding us back…

Primary 1 update.

Here we are showing off some of the phonemes we have been learning this term. We know them really well and can use them to write some of the trickier words.

We know all of these tricky phonemes.

This week was our turn to visit the STEM zone. We were involved in some great learning experiences as you can see…..

Working together to make an aeroplane. It’s a bit tricky!

STEM week for us his week. We love to create and design!

Let’s think about what we could make with all of these different parts?

I’ve made my own truck. It was tricky to get the wheels on but I used the tools.

Also it was World Book day. Everyone brought in an object that reminded them of a favourite story and some of us brought the story with us too. Then, we shared our story with our class mates. It was great to hear about the different stories and characters that everyone likes.

We brought in an object that was linked to our favourite book. I have Fluttershy!

What else have we brought in to talk about? We love books!

My favourite character and story!

In P1, we are enjoying Number Talks. In this photo, you can see that we have been working out how many dots we can see altogether. We are looking for adding doubles, adding one or two more, making a ten, counting on and seeing patterns. We are all pretty smart you know!

Working on Number Talks. What can you see and how do you see it? Big questions and big answers.

Each week, we are using Word Aware to learn new vocabulary. This week we are learning all about the word “mean”. No one in our class is mean though!

Our Word Aware Word of the week is “mean”. Thank goodness no one is mean in our class!

Sentence building using our Word Aware word of the week.

Our visitors cam last week to tell us all about Maisie Milk. We are going to bring in spare change to fill a milk carton and donate all of the money to Aid to the Church in Need. This is a charity that Pope Francis would like us to support. It will go on all year, with each class collecting spare change. What a great idea.

We are now collecting cons for our Maisie Milk carton.

Play area time is always an interesting time to play with different things and different people. Look at what we were up to on Friday!!

Balancing fun at the play area.

The painting is always a popular choice at play area.

Everyone loves to be creative at the making table.

We are very smart in P1. We know all of these phonemes.

Primary Five Update!

What a fabulous week!

Some of our boys and girls have been really enjoying their time outside as sports leaders. They have had a ball creating their own games to teach to our younger pupils. Molly had so much fun that she even managed to fall right into some mud! The sports leaders are currently working on writing up rules for some of their new games. We can’t wait to see what they come up with!

We have also been enjoying learning some new Spanish vocabulary. This week we put our learning together to have short conversations completely in Spanish! Primary five can’t wait to begin learning all about colours!

Finally, we are also very excited to be starting our swimming lessons next week! Look out next week for an update on how we get on! : )

World book day in Pr6

Primary six had great fun with World book day today.

Children were asked to bring in favourite books and an item from their book. We then had a talk in front of the class about why we chose our book, best part, favourite character etc. Children then amazed us all with objects from their books. We had magic wands from Harry Potter, sparkly gems from Gansta Granny and even a baseball from a marvel book!

One of the best things about our  talks was that we had learned about new books from each other that we want to go on and read!

We then went on to become illustrators and we designed new front covers for our favourite books.

After all that we watched trailers about new book releases on the world book day website and we listened to some authors talk about their writers craft!

We finished off with a reading session in our own class library. What a brilliant day!

Primary 1 update.

Our week started off with a visit to the school book fair. We saw some lovely books and recognised some of them from our own class library.

Everyone had the chance to talk about the books they liked and to share our books with our friends.

I love sharks. I can’t wait to read this book.

We have read this book in class and we loved it! We also loved “Oi frog”.

I like the front cover of this book and I can see the “wh” phoneme in the title.

I think I might like this book. I think I can read some of the words by myself.

These two superstars have been working their socks off to learn some new sounds . They have made great progress and are showing off their skills by writing the sounds correctly. Well done !

I am learning some new sounds this week. I’m getting really good at my sounds.

I’m very proud of myself because I know these sounds.

In PE, we are learning how to play hockey. Firstly, we had to learn how to hold the hockey stick, then we had to learn to control a large ball. When we have mastered this, we will move onto a small ball.

We are learning to hold the hockey sticks with two hands.

We are using the big balls to practice controlling the ball with our hockey sticks.

We know how to hold the hockey stick.

Fun in Primary Five!

P5 have enjoyed a busy week!

We have been practising our songs for our summer performance – we are really enjoying learning all of the words. Our class are definitely the best singers in the entire school!

Since it has been such a nice week weather wise, we loved getting the opportunity to take our PE lesson outside. We even enjoyed a quiet reading session in the sunshine! Fingers crossed for more amazing weather!

We have also thoroughly enjoyed our first few Spanish lessons. We have learned a few different greetings and how to ask what someone’s name is and reply. If you see us in the hallway, make sure to test us out! We are really quite good!

Stem fun in P3!

This week primary 3 had fun in The Stem Zone. Our challenge was to design and built a boat. We are going to test or boats to see if they float.

We also carried out some research on Egyptian Pharaohs during our digital learning this week and recorded our facts in our jotters. We will write a report using our research during story writing.
