A busy start to Primary 5!

Primary 5 have had a busy few weeks since the summer holidays! We have been getting used to our new timetable and have lots of new and exciting things happening in our class this year. On Thursday we had our first Kodaly session where we learned some songs and rhymes that we loved singing together as a class, it was great fun. In P.E. we have started a block of tennis and we will be learning lots of new skills over the next few weeks so look out for some of our pictures! In taught writing we are working on narrative stories and this week we wrote about a time when we had been naughty, I bet our parents would love to read them!

Primary 1 update.

Another successful and busy week in our class. We had Paired reading with our Buddies 5is week where we were able to practice reading our class reading book and also we were able to share a story for enjoyment with our friends and Buddies.

Our artistic skills have also been developed this week when we created our own painted paper to use in a new project next week….watch this space for updates!

Also this week, our parents and carers came to read to us on Friday morning at Stan and Read. This is a great chance to get together and enjoy some stories from the class library.

In our maths we have been learning about and creating patterns. Everyone created a repeated pattern on their paper T-shirt, then everyone created a repeated pattern using colourful shapes.

This wall display, shows what we have been learning in RE. Look at all of the special little faces in our class…everyone is special, God knows everyone, and we treat each other with care.

Welcome to our class blog!

This week in Primary 1, we started Stay and Read. After the bell rings at 9.00, parents and carers are invited to Stay and Read with the children. Not only is this a great way to enjoy stories, it is also an ideal opportunity to get to know one another.

A positive way to start the day reading with mum and dad.

Sharing a book with mum in the school library.

Stay and Read is a brilliant way to get to know our new parents and carers.

Stay and Read with our friends and family

Look our each week, for our news on the class blog.

Fun at Drumpelier Park!

We had a brilliant time at Drumpelier Park yesterday. We learned about swans and ducks, we saw cool plants and trees and even heard about a spider that can make a web… UNDERWATER!

What a fun day!

A Day Out With Dinosaurs!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We had a great class trip last week. We went to see Trix the T-Rex at the Kelvin Hall. It was BRILLIANT!

First, we decided who our partners would be for the day. After that, we buckled up our seatbelts when we were on the bus. This kept us safe when we were travelling along the motorway.

When we arrived, we had to wait for a little while for the exhibit to open. We didn’t mind though, we had our cool DINO-PACKS to complete.

After that, it was time to meet Trix. She was ENORMOUS! She had cool teeth, scary claws and a very long tail. We loved sketching her!

There were so many fun things to do when we were inside. We could try to excavate dinosaur eggs, we could take part in a Dino-quiz and we could even race a T-Rex! What a great day!

Primary 1 update.

This week, we have been reading more fairy tales. We enjoyed “The three billy goats gruff.” Also we have been writing about he fairy tales too. We have not had a letter from our friendly dragon this week and we are hoping to get one on Tuesday after the break. You will see that we have been continuing with our growing topic too and have spent time looking at flowers in art and exploring the shapes and colours. We created these beautiful colour wheel flowers for our wall.

We made magic wands to cast spells! We’ve been reading lots of fairy tales.

Finger rosary beads that we made with Mrs Wilson.

Can you guess what we are painting ?

Our finished colour wheel flowers!

Adding the final touches….

Listening to music in P.2

As part of our ‘When Gran Was A Girl’ topic, we’ve been investigating aspects of life in the past. Recently, we’ve been looking at how people listened to music.

Nowadays, it’s easy to stream music on your phone or tablet. However, this wasn’t possible in the past. Instead, people sometimes made use of something called a record player. This week, we’ve enjoyed having a record player in our class.

We enjoyed looking at how the record spun round while playing music. We also enjoyed lifting the needle to change songs. However, we had to be very careful when turning the record over to the other side.

Pretty cool stuff!

Primary 1 update.

Science , Art and Literacy in primary 1! We have been reading lots of Fairy Tales and recently enjoyed “Jack and the Beanstalk”. If you have anything to do with P1, you will know by now that we have a friendly Dragon from Fairy land that comes and visits us regularly, this Dragon also leaves us “D-mail” most mornings! So….last week in our post box, was the story of Jack and the magic beans. The dragon also left us some magic beans to plant and some sunflowers! We are hoping to grow a beanstalk to the clouds.

We have been looking after the seeds so well that most of them have sprouted now. Some are pretty tall!

As well as learning how plants grow, we wanted to paint some sunflowers using the warm and bright colours of the sun. This was great fun and we spent some time researching what the sunflowers might look like when they are fully grown.

Watch this space and we will post a picture of the completed sunflowers soon!

What do you think of our wonderful writing? We are just about ready for Primary 2 and our teacher is super proud of the work we have been doing to improve our writing skills. Wow!!

Showing off our talents in P.2!

We have a very talented class in P.2. Last week, one boy brought in an example of some artwork that he was working on at home.

First, he showed off his artwork to our class and told us about the creative process behind these artworks. After that, there was time for a quick Q and A with the rest of the class. I was very impressed with the engaging and interesting questions that the class asked. I was also quite glad to pick up some tips and hints to improve my own artistic abilities!
